Mike Hover, I just checked my records, my son asked for his stuff and I had it mailed within 6 days of his PIR, hopefully this week you will be able to mail it off.  Mail arrives at the base but they can not get it until after 6:00pm  I suggest getting the delivery conformation from the PO for $.75 its worth it to track it and make sure it arrives.  His birthday was Wednesday and we sent a package, it arrived on time but they are holding all deliveries until tomorrow, not sure why but I know it arrived. Good luck with the school, Jason finished 4th out of 54, not bad for someone who did not even know what MA was until a few weeks ago.  I hope some other dads with kids in the same class as yours will contact you.  I met one dad Jay Butler, his daughter Amber finished 2nd.  It was great to talk with someone that was going thru it at the same time.

HaHa, yea I guess they took advantage of a New Sailor trying to follow directions.  Oh well, no harm, no foul. Him not having his phone is not a major deal. I am sure he will let me know as soon as he can and I will get it to him.  Hopefully, there are other parents (with SR's reading this blog) so they can decide for themselves whether or not to deliver the devices.  Thanks to all for your comments.

Mike Hover.  My son Jason had his PIR 10-12-12  We could have seen him at the airport, but you could only get up to the gate and did not know what time he was arriving there.  Luckily he got to go to the USO at the airport.  He told us no electronics as well, I think it was not enough room to take them and maybe not everyone had them, so just make it straight across the board, no electronics.  He arrived there about 9:00 and flew out at 5:30am  He was at "A" school about a week when I got a call that he could have his stuff.  He got his new classification so he could wear civvies and leave the base about 2 weeks ago.  He got treated very well by the locals for Thanksgiving.  He graduates next week and should be home by the 8th or 9th for 2 weeks liberty before shipping off to Okinawa.  My son was in the air rescue swimmer program until Thursday night before PIR, so MA was one of the options he had to choose from.

"Additionally he was told that he was NOT allowed to have "Tech" (cell phone) at A-school for a minimum of three weeks" This is so bizarre that his RDC's said this since MA A School is a totally different Command...

The RDC's sent mixed messages. Others were also told no parents at the airport due to security issues.  His bus left 0530 from GL for Midway. He and others sat around until 1740 when their planes left for TX. Thank God for the USO.  As a Veteran of the Marine Corps, It is good to know the old "Hurry up and wait" is still a pratice they use.

Thanks John, unfortunately for us - my son was told by his RDC's that we were not allowed to meet him at the airport due to security reasons. Additionally he was told that he was NOT allowed to have "Tech" (cell phone) at A-school for a minimum of three weeks.  I was discouraged to hear that some other traveling Sailors going to the same school did indeed have their phones with them- of course that was when we were well on our way home and unable to get his phone to him.  Oh well, maybe I will hear from him soon with an address so we can send him his cell phone.  Thanks for the post I appreciate it.
