Hi Ray, hope you're feeling better. I have the same thing.  How is Chris doing?  Joey is great and as a matter of fact, we are going shopping for clothes when he comes home.  lol.  He is so excited about Hawaii.  We are trying to head up to NY in May for a few days while he is home on leave.

Redfly, He like to play golf and since the Island has a lot of courses what's not to like he can play year round golf : )    But yes he does 3on  3off then 2on 2off 12 hours a day. He did that on midnights for 3 month but now he doing it on days. He on the Wahaiwa Communication base in the center of Oahu 2000 feet above sea level. In January he seem snow flakes falling out of the sky : ) Your son will enjoy Oahu there's a lot of things for him to do on this Island.

Thanks for the concern Paul, but I've been busy with the kids' bookstore and Yankee Stadium security job, keeping the responsible and the sloshed secure and safe! And I was just hit with a nasty Spring cold, so my head feels like 10 lbs of manure in a 5 lb bag...
BTW, Redfly, has Joey purchased any weather appropriate civilian duds for the Pearl Harbor assignment? I may just have to visit HIM once in a while instead of Chris...

Honolulu may be more expensive, but I could live in a tent on the beach for the rest of my days there!

BTW, I would say that Redfly's presence here in NavyDads is proof we're the rockinest navy parents website! But that's just me...

He's doing waterfront, I think. Patrolling the piers, etc. He's settled down some since last week. He's always been headstrong and change averse, like most humans to some degree or another. He posted on Facebook on Friday or yesterday that he was going to apply for STA-21, which tells me he has settled down, and he's saying the 12 hour tours are not too bad.
Another FB post the other day, he asked if a crow landing on his M150 was a bad omen...his sense of humor has returned! And I strongly suspect having his Kick Ass Charger to tool around town in helps immeasurably!
Like I told him during the railing and steaming last week, he's now in the grown up part of the Navy, and he has to adjust to being the bottom of the boot so to speak. Let me know if Ty does choose Norfolk, I'll tip off Chris to keep eyes out.

COLA is probably cost of living allowance. I imagine it's a little more expensive to live in Hawaii than it is in Bahrain. :-)

ok Bill, I'm a new Navy Mom and have to ask, what's COLA? lol

Elbert thanks for the info.  Are you familiar as to what model the 9mm is such as Glock or Barretta?  My son leaves for RTC in November and just want him to be as familiar as possible with what we can
