My son is going to be at Pearl Harbor.  He is so excited. How does your son like working those shifts? Do they work like 3 on? and then off? How does your son like Hawaii? and where in Hawaii is he?

Can anyone tell me what weapons the recruits are trained on at RTC and then again at A School for Master At Arms?  Thanks!

My son was given the choice of Hawaii, Norfolk and New Hampshire.  Of course he chose -----Hawaii.....Good luck to all the MA that are picking this week.  I hope you get what you want.

Ray , is Chris   with the base group, gate etc verses waterfront?

Ray, sorry to hear things are off to a rough start for Chris.  I can imagine how different it will be for them going from knowing everyone in A school to nobody at the first duty station.  Ty has 20 people from his bootcamp class, 7 of which are from his division with him in SA.  He says the list of assignments will come out next wednesday and has heard there may be several Hawaii and Bahrain slots available.  I have a hunch that if he has a chance for Virginia he will take it although he says Hawaii for now....time will tell

Ray, I see the Navy hasn't changed much, more then not most Nukes I  have met are living in la la Land. I once shared a room in a barrack with a U.S. Marine. I got woke-up the second night by someone reading me my rights, Him and a buddy came back smoking pot and our room got raided by Shore Patrol. I was luck to be able to talk my way out of that. Yea 3 days 12hrs off 3 days then work 2 days 12hrs then off 2 days. My son Kris did that in Hawaii started out on midnight 8PM to 8AM for 3 months before being rotated on Days 8AM to 8PM for 3 months. Kris is also enrolled in a Police Officer Apprentice program.

Thanks El.  He has also requested different quarters, his roommate is a Sub Nuke, and a complete slob and social boob.  He's told the guy every day to clean up his side of the room, and then he sent me pix via cell phone of this kid's growing pile of junk food containers in the room. After six months of sardine can duty, this kid spends all day in the room, in the dark, on his computer or playing video games.  Chris keeps getting this kid, and nothing. And Chris has never done patience well, nor has he any qualms of getting on this kid. This is contributing to his malaise too.  But he's also on week two of his duty, two days twelve hour shifts, then three days off.  The drive by the way was not too bad last Friday, made three stops, left at 6:30 and hit the Pass and Registration office on Seabee at 2.  And man, that Chesapeake Bridge/Tunnel/Brunnel or whatever it's called took my breath away when I drove onto it.  WOW!

Another good note for Chris, a buddy from A School a class behind him just arrived for his assignment, so he has a familiar face.

Yea Ray, Believe it or not you miss boot camp and A school because of the number of people that go through it with you. You connect with a lot of them like brothers. It will be good to have a set of wheels to get around. Now he has fewer MAA there but he will hook-up and make new Friends at North Fork soon.  Cheers
