I second that Dave. Get in touch with Sarge if you need anything....from info to transportation. We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott which is literally a couple hundred yards from the Sundance Saloon. We will all steer you in the right direction when the time comes! In the meantime, check out some of the options that your Son will have in A School....Expeditionary, MWD's, PRP,....it all depends on what is available when he graduates. Our sailors are spread throughout, so that one of us has an answer for you....LOL!

Whenever you figure out where you will be stay, you will want to go to Sarge's Meet n Greet. It is usually the night before PIR. He gives you tons of useful information on time and parking...etc.

More than likely he will be going to Lackland AFB in San Antonio for MA school. Like Tom said, The better he does at MA school the better his choices are for MWD = Military Working Dogs and his choice of Station. Unfortunately if he does qualify for MWD he won't get a choice of where he is stationed. It won't be on a ship though. To get MWD he need to be one of the top 2 in his class. The more focused he remains the better his chances are. My daughter got one of the 2 spots mostly because she wanted it more than the others. 

Everyone gets to put in for their choice of stations. Again depending on how well he does in MA school, he will improve his chances of going where he chooses. There is usually a mix of overseas and mainland ports and ships. 

Do plan on attending his PIR on Feb 6th?

Welcome to the Group, Dave! Specialties are usually chosen by class rank at the end of A School The better he does, the better pick of orders he will have....and YES....needs of the Navy come first! Mike Baione is our resident expert on MWD's and always ready to help. Depending upon his choice, he could possibly deploy (my daughter is on her 2nd in 3 1/2 years) or end up land-based in the States....Only time will tell! Good Luck to your Son!

Hi, folks. I'm new to this forum. My son's at RTC now, graduating Feb. 6 and will go to MA school. I have a couple of general questions about MA and his first duty station.

First, he's really interested in working with dogs. Will that be an option for him right away? (He'll go to A school as an E-3.)

Second, I'm confused about inus/outus, conus/outus, etc. I know it's needs of the Navy, but is first duty stations always on ships? Or always overseas? Or what?

Welcome Todd, Hi everyone!

Started my new job just before the Holidays and jumped right into 12 hour shifts to get end of quarter done. I can breathe now, but still very busy.

Hey Rob! Sorry John got bumped. It would be funny to tell the guys that got set back that a 5'4" girl completed it with no problems, especially if they were the big jock types. :-)  I'm glad John at least got to stay with his friends. I think it makes the experience easier. Wish him good luck!
