I am happy to join this group since my son will be assigned to JAX upon his return from deployment starting at the end of November. I live in the Ft Lauderdale area and it will be great to see him more often. James is assigned to VP26 in Brunswick, Maine.

Hi Jim, thanks for your welcome! Have you learned what it means to be acoustic or non-acoustic? In my last few years in P-3s, the non-acoustic operator, and his avionics suite, got the most work and improvements. Acronyms such as ECM/ESM, MAD, ISAR will become commonplace for him. Not gonna disclose any more here. If you go to visit him at JAX, try to avoid the humid summer months (June through late August) as it gets too hot to enjoy anything except A/C down there. Sounds like a late Fall visit would be great (probably temps in the 70s!). The historic city of St. Augustine is just a short drive south, but was interesting for our family.

Hey Jim, do you mind if an old NAS JAX sailor jumps aboard? I spent about half of my career in the greater JAX, FL area having been stationed at NAS Cecil Field from 81-85, then NAS JAX from 85-87 and 89-93. As a former AX (Antisubmarine Warfare Technician) I repaired the ASW systems on the S-3, H-3, and P-3 that the pilots and AWs broke! I loved the P-3, and took great pleasure in making sure the central computer ASW Preflight checks were successfully completed and ready to fly. Tell your son I say congrats, and to show a little deference to the IFTs since they'll save his bacon during a mission. Also, give him a hard time and tell him an AW is just a SLB (Self Loading Baggage)! Blessings, Kevin
