He is not part of a squadron-- he is part of AIMD or Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department, IM-2 Division (general maintenance). I'm not sure if they have their own crest/logo as I cannot find it on the internet and Eric has never mentioned it to me. If I think of it, I'll ask......

And I understand the computer...mine is about 6 years old and is running a lot of older software......I did add a second drive about a year and a half ago though when I started ripping a lot of music from CD's---- I ran out of storage space!

Paul - To ask a question I already asked about your son being with a squadron/division. . .my son is also attached to the USS Enterprise but he still has a squadron. Maybe you should ask if he is also with one and I can post his logo up top like I did my son's :).

Yes a glorious accident! I don't have the luxury of all the neat programs, my computer is 9 yrs. old and only 10GB hard drive still lol. I upgraded it too Windows XP and now I barely have any hard drive space so no extras :(. . .I can't even put Microsoft Word on lol.

Thanks Michele....It took me a bunch of hours trying to figure out how to do that in Photoshop...don't know if I could ever do it again...glorious accidients!!

Yes I am glad you posted that! I may mention it to Wes and see if he would be able to get involved with the program, he is really good with kids :). I know his job keeps him busy from 7am - 4:30pm each day. . .

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (NNS) -- Children at Windsor Oaks Elementary School enjoyed a holiday party Dec. 10 as part of a mentorship program between Naval Air Station Oceana's Fleet Readiness Center (FRC) Mid-Atlantic and the school.

The party was a celebration for approximately 16 children at Windsor Oaks who are part of a mentorship program with Sailors from FRC Mid-Atlantic.

The program helps students who have been identified by their teachers as needing a little one-on-one assistance from a positive role model.

"The Sailors come here every week in uniform and give them as much help as possible," said Aviation Support Equipment Technician 1st Class(AW/SW) Marvin Pelzer, the FRC Mid-Atlantic program coordinator. "We want to give every kid the chance to be successful. This also gives the Sailors a really good chance to see first-hand the positive impact their hard work can have."

The holiday party allowed the Sailors and children a chance to interact in a more casual setting. Most of the FRC Mid-Atlantic Sailors arrived in civilian clothes to foster a relaxed atmosphere.

"This party gave everyone an environment where they could let their hair down and just have fun," said Pelzer.

The mentors and students played games, decorated holiday scenes and exchanged cards and gifts before sitting down for a pizza lunch.

According to Storekeeper 2nd Class (AW) Toni Acid, an FRC Mid-Atlantic volunteer, the mentorship enriches not only the lives of the students but theirs as well.

"When we are working on math and I can see her getting it; it is truly a wonderful experience," said Acid.

Anna, one of the students in the program, agreed with Acid about its benefits.

"When my mentor is here I am always happy," said Anna. "She helps me with the words I don't know. It's totally awesome."

The program at Windsor Oaks was started more than a year ago, and some say it has become a model program for other commands to emulate. Even with all of the success the program has attained for its students, the members of FRC Mid-Atlantic are striving for more.

"We want to take it to another level and continue to be a positive influence to the students and the community," said Acid.

"The mentorship program continues to grow," said Pelzer. "We encourage others to get involved. Every child who has a mentor benefits from the relationship."

Pelzer also wanted to thank the school's staff for all of their help in making the program a success.

"The individual team program coordinator Katie Knapp and the school have been phenomenal," he said. "It has made a huge impact, and I'm pleased and honored to be a part of it."

Oh I am heading there !!! lol That sounds so good! I hate you have to be alone tho :(. I honestly can't say what I am doing for Christmas because Wes is making plans constantly as I type this lol. I could be home (in my warmer state of NC) or we could be on the road traveling from state to state to visit family and his girl. Including Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin. . .brrrrrr!

My daughter Kat is staying in Everett (attached to the Abraham Lincoln)-- I'll work Christmas as the others two chemists in the lab have families to celebrate with....so I volunteered to get what I need done and then I'll probably head home, fire up the grill and make myself a feast of lamb chops and parsley'd red potatoes!
