I'm with ya, revman.  In my book, that means we've got a group! Hooyah!  Best of luck to your boy!

How are your Boys doing I know Hellweek should be coming up!

prayers for physical health and mental fortitude to the young men of class 3zero1 ... Godspeed!

As you can see, I didn't add much after I opened the discussion.  To be honest, I didn't want to cause trouble for the boys.  I still don't want to cause any undue stress for them, but my son is not in the class anymore.  He has since gotten another rate that he is happy with.  I do believe they are in Hell week now, however.

For those who experience the buildup to their son becoming a seal only to get the phone call that he DORd, I must say I have mixed emotions.  Of course, I am glad that he made a calculated decision to drop while there were some good rates available (any further info would be too specific).  But I also have an appreciation of how focused those young men have to be.  The longer you stay in BUD/s, the more committed you have to be and the fewer the rate selections are for those who DOR later.  Of course, those who score well on the ASVAB have more options, but even those grow fewer.  It is scary for a parent to contemplate the crucible their son undergoes and the pride that comes with success to find that it's not to be.  I can only imagine what it must be like for the young men to call it quits or to be asked in one way or another to leave.

I have taught my children that it's good to get a job you love.  My son assures me that his new rate suits him and I'm proud of the path he took to find it.  I guess that's all I can add.
