What Phase?

Today is day 2 of first phase

Day 5...

My son is in 324.

Is there anyone here with some knowledge of BUD/s that could answer a few questions for me?

Rick

My son was in 292 so its been a few years since he was in BUDs, but I could probably help you.

TK,

My sons class (324) is almost complete with their 2nd week of Phase I.

A question I had was, when (if at all) would be an opportune time to go visit him?

They have weekends off, or at least they did after their 1st week, I assume that is the case throughout all 3 Phases?

Or is it better to leave them alone to R&R?

We did not see our son during BUD/s until the public ceremony following graduation from SQT (SEAL Qualification Training).  I agree with your sentiment regarding R&R because of the intensity of training and the need for a physical and mental refractory period. I know of parents who did visit on a weekend but am not sure how much time they actually spent with their son.  There is a good bit of travel for them in land warfare (phase 3) and SQT so visiting is a bit more tricky or impractical.  BUD/s is physically and mentally demanding and our primary calculation was always what would be best for him.  For a young man BUD/s begins the process of learning a new lifestyle, that of a SEAL warrior; for the parent it is an up and down roller coaster ride.  I wish you and well and good luck to your son.

Yes, as I assumed, better to give them their free time to heal up. Thanks.
