Navy Dads

Just got a call from my son Anthony (HM3) tonight. He's scheduled to deploy on Wednesday 1/20 to help with the Haiti humanitarian relief effort. I asked if he was going to be on the USNS Comfort or will he be in Country. He said he's packin all his Marine Corps gear as he's a "greenside" FMF Corpsman and will probably be on the ground. He still doesn't know all the details yet but he's been told to start packing.
While I'm sure that everyone will be OK, things could get out of hand if order doesn't get restored there quickly. I hope that he gets a chance to stay in touch from time to time. Anyone else here have a son / daughter deploying to Haiti?

Please let your Son know that my Family and I will be keeping him in our Thoughts as well as all the Fine Young Men and Women serving our Country and helping in Haiti and around the World.
Bob, our thoughts are with your son and your family. Humanitarian stuff seems to turn out to be as worrying as war stuff these days. If your son is FMF, though, I'm confident that he is prepared for anything and ready to help. If you and Anthony are not already on Facebook, you should sign up. If they have any satellite coms, it may be easier for him to get to a computer hookup than a phone, and facebook and the like let short messages go to all his on-line "friends" at once. This worked pretty well even when my son was in the Iraqi desert.
Thanks for the kind words grandpa273 & Daniel. I don't do the Facebook thing (my daughters do!!) but we have Skype which works well. I heard from him last night and he does know a little more detail now. Him and another guy are all packed and are moving today to hook up with the Marines and then off they go. They were told to expect a 4 -8 month deployment. Watching the news, it appears that things are starting to come under control a little better. What a mess.
Thanks again.
