Welcome to the NavyDads Media Center !

Share your recommendations for books and other media that you think would be of interest to other NavyDads.  I have numerous books I've read, and recently listened to via audiobook download, that generally concentrate on WWII Navy history that tell the recent combat history of the Navy and show where many current Navy doctrines and traditions have evolved from.  I find the stories compelling and make me even more proud to have a daughter that is a Navy veteran and a son on active duty and part of this long tradition of service.  Won't you share your recommendations as well?

For all you bookish-types out there in Navy Dads land, here's an interesting quarterly publication you might want to check out:  http://www.claremont.org/publications/crb/

Hooyah.

I just pre-ordered "No Easy Day" by Mark Owen and Kevin Maurer.  It's a first-hand account of the mission that killed Osama Bin Laden.  It's due tp be released on Sept 11.

I'll have to check out Lutrell on FaceBook-- thanks!

Hey Jack....I follow Marcus Lutrell's FB page....he had pretty major back surgery in late June.... and is currently up to 6 miles in training for a half-marathon.......ex-SEALs are as tough as active duty SEALs...

I just finished "The Amateur" by Ed Klein.... been at the top of the Bestsellers list.  Pretty insightful in an election year.

I finished reading 'Six Frigates'. Although you might consider the subject matter dry, it was written well and kept my interest throughout. The book talks in detail about the economic and political landscape leading up to Congress authorizing the construction of the first frigates of the US Navy.
The period leading up to and the War of 1812 and some of the significant action of these ships is quite fascinating. The author uses full nautical terms to describe the actions of each of the combatants.
As i searched further at the books available on amazon.com for kindle, I discovered many books on Naval history available for free. I downloaded and am now reading Teddy Roosevelt's history of the War of 1812.
'Six Frigates' gets a BZ from me.

I'm currently reading "Unbroken". It's an amazing story, telling the experiences of Olympic athlete Louis Zamperini, who was shot down and became a POW in WWII. His memoirs became this book as written by the same author who wrote Sea Biscuit.

This is the endearing old fleer that was Recently interviewed on 60 Minutes and elsewhere. Great story!
