Saw the group for Navy Dads of Kentucky. Thought I would join. My son Left for boot camp on Sept. 25th. He called his mom and said that he was there and safe. This Monday he will start week 1 day 1. I am from Western KY, in Murray. I would like to see how others are doing and get as much information as possible. Thanks.

Saw the group for Navy Dads of Kentucky.  Thought I would join.  My son is set to graduate Boot Camp on February 09, 2018.  I am not from Western KY, but I like to see how others are doing and get as much information as possible. Thanks.

Just remembering 20 years ago on jan. 17, 1994 we took our son to join the Navy.  It was snowing so badthey were going to stay at a hotel but he came home with another sailor.  So proud of him for his 20 year anniversary.

I have read so many conflicting statements about A school after PIR.  My Fiance` is supposed to be an RPS.  Will she be sent to Meriddean Mi or ???  I have read everything I can find and find many conflicting statements.  How long is A school?  Meriddean Mi, or Jackson FL?  38 days?  40 ?   Is this where she will train with USMC?  I would appreciate any accurate info.

Thanks

RD

Still no letter today, so I got impatient and called the recruiter.  He told me that Robert is in Ship 2, Division 912, PIR 1 Feb 2013.  He told me that 912 is a performing division, which is what Robert wanted.  Now I can get some mail on the way to him!

Hi Brian H,

Don't expect too much in the form letter from your son.  The letter itself will have quite a bit of info but the recruit doesn't have much time to write their portion in.  It's still great to hear from them! I'm sure you'll do this anyway but make an effort to write to him as much as you can.  It will take a little while for him to get the first letters but he'll enjoy them one by one.  My daughter said she enjoyed just reading about the simple everyday things that were going on around home and town.  You'll be surprised how easy it will be to find subjects to write about when you get started.  He'll also enjoy getting different letters from you and your wife.  Both of you will have things that you'll want to share with him in your own way and it really helps for the recruit to be reminded that they've got your support. Merry Christmas from Southeast KY!!

Good Luck to both of your childern.  They do change is the best way possible.  My son is now a very mature and responsible person.  Wasn't that way 19 years ago when he joined.

Thanks Bob,

I couldn't hide mine from my wife.  She made me hold it until she got home from work, so she could open it.  That was hard to do, even though I knew what was in it.  Now waiting on the form letter so I can send letters!  :)

Hi Brian H,

That's a difficult item to receive in the mail but it's a sign that all is well with your son thus far.  I tried to hide "the box" from my wife when we got my daughter's stuff because I knew she would get broken up when she looked inside.  In a way, receiving the contents is kind of an indication that the young man you saw take off is taking a great step forward in his life and leaving a part of the prior "self" behind.  I know that I was amazed (literally) at the difference in my daughter after boot camp.  That's now been 3 years ago and I'm still impressed with her "growth" on a regular basis.  She's experienced many challenges and many successes and she's grown a little bit with each experience. Congrats to your son!

My son arrived at Great Lakes on Tuesday, Dec 4.  We received the box containing everything he brought with him to Boot Camp.  Should have the form letter soon.
