that aircard for the usb sounds good, and costs 50 dollars a month,I am going to point  that out to him,there are so many phone companies with a lot of different deals out there,so maybe this is something he could go for. I dont think he can get the internet on his phone,but a friend of his has one that is a hot spot. Also I can imagine they cannot be in touch at all times when deployed. Thanks

Yahoo chat is part of Yahoo messenger...either text chat, voice chat (which I've used with Jim) or video chat (also have tested with Jim) over internet connection.

Yahoo chat?  nto sure what that is. if they have a black berry, it's a type of phone they can PM (personal message?) I think it's like texting. it's part of my daughters plan, either international plan or her data plan not sure which. and when they are deployed?? well, it depends where they are, but NO they can't just dial up anytime they want to.  there are silent zones and times. even when they are in port doesn't mean they can communicate back home or use the internet. sorry folks we are at war and their safety comes first!

If you have a phone that gets the internet, you can Skype on there as well...and it doesn't have to be a video Skype, it can be just a call.

Jame´s Mom

I do have skype and was able to chat with my son on New years day,which was fantastic,and then I try to keep an eye out for when he is on facebook,and have occasionally been able to chat there with him. But since he doesn´t have internet in his room and is very busy,he has not had the time to go somewhere else to connect.Also we have the time difference which is 6 hours ahead here. I dont know how they do it when they are deployed,whether they have internet on their phone maybe.I know he also has some package deal on the phone,which is unlimited texting and some calls within the States.

I guess we are lucky though to have this technology,skype and yahoo,facebook and faster postal service =} Thanks for pointing out the yahoo though.

Fina,

If you do not have skype, can you use Yahoo chat?  I have many friends who have been deployed and they use YC and keep their computer on all the time...Yes, roaming fees are challenging.

Blondie. Thanks for telling me about the skype forwarding,wont try that then.I actually got news though from his dad and,was happy to hear that he is doing great in his studies,scored the highest in his class,so that I brag some=}I know there is much to study plus other duties,so patience is the word. Have a nice weekend all of you =}

G.G. I hardly hear from mine either.  It's the roaming fees that stack up. not all countries ue the same system we do, so there are no towers etc....s they get hit with roaming fees!  my daughter has skype and had it forwarded to her cell, got hit with roaming fees!  sorry, fact of life, but it's better then nam, snail mail and no mail!

Sandy, congrads, I'll be sure to add him to my prayer list.

Suzi, good for him, he mucst have made an impression. Congrads for raising such a fine young man.  do you know where he's going?

Hello Everyone.....haven't posted here in a long time.

Hey Blondie.....totally loved to hear about your travels on N4M!

Lynch grads A school in Pensacola on Feb 1. His orders popped today. He's the only one in his class who got orders. His roomie already grad A school for the same rate - AWV and has not gotten his orders. Not sure if it's a good thing he has a couple months to wait until SERE, lol.
