ready to leave tomorrow, got a call today, things are not god, we are deploying! Chief says come anyway, he'll have a escort pick you up and take you to base, where you will stay. they neeed the moral lift. Please pray
Make sure your recruits get a flu shot at least 6 weeks before they go to boot camp. They WILL get another one at boot camp, but it takes 2-3 weeks to be effective. If they're immune BEFORE they to go boot camp, then that's one less illness that can make them miserable.
There is no rhyme or reason for calls. The calls that have been made in the last few days are either to make up for missed "I'm here"calls, or they are "information" calls to help with security clearance. Only a few recruits get these calls. Also occasionally one or two recruits will "earn" a call. In my son's division, any recruit who passed their first shoe-shine inspection got a call. Only three of the 80-something recruits earned the call.
They also earned a call for the entire division passing the swim test on their first try - not a common occurrence. Then one of the recruits screwed up on the way back to barracks (forgot his ID card at the pool), and the entire division lost the call they had just earned.
When they do finally get a *real* call, it will most likely be the week after Christmas, or just after the New Year. Usually the calls come in the afternoon, after 3 p.m. Chicago time. All of my calls came on Thursday or Friday, but they really can come at any day.
Those with rcts with rates that will have a high security clearance...expect to be interviewed by the FBI. This sometimes happens while in boot camp but usually happens during A school. Friends, family, teachers, coaches, employers, pastors, scout masters, etc.
The interview usually lasts 20-30 minutes...perhaps longer. Will have various questions about your rcts mental health, attitude, past history, the type of friends he/she has, how reliable he/she is, if is dependable, etc. Anything to do with the security of the country. Let friends know not to be making jokes. One of my son's friends made a joke about not letting him near explosives and he had to convince the investigator that he was just joking ( he is a bad jokester...hope he learned a lesson)
Some of the interviews will be over the phone but most will be face to face. Only answer what is asked, don't let your nerves get you and talk on and on. Of course, as always be honest and direct. Remember your country's security depends on your rct/sailor.
Crystal, I know it will be a hard one without Dave, that's why I'm glad he's coming home. Maybe dinner at nieces house would be a good idea, change of plans and start new traditions. 6 hours from home! what a blessing, every mom's dream!! I'll be praying for lyou all ans crossing my fingers for good measure! lol
Suzi,I'm glad lyou're son will be home, enjoy him while you have him.
Northeast Pa. On NY state border. Snow to the North and South but missed us. It is OK as we are just as cold as you are Blondie. Praying Cora's daughter is close enough for you to get to say Hello!!! Son will be home next Thursday. He will go back Jan 2. Righjt now he is completing his stuff to send in for his transfer orders. Yeah shore duty 6 hours from home. First Christmas without Dave (husband/father). Hoping we do alright. My niece just bought a home and invited us to join her for Christmas dinner.
Crystal, little snow? really? you must be way east. our schools were closed for 3 days and temp. yesterday was high of 18 with w.c. still -14 below! today it's supose to hit 22-25 and wind chills only -6. trouble is it started snowing again yesterday and suppose to the next few days, just praying it's not alot of snow. the blowing is making things hard to get around. Monday i couldn't make it home for lunch, poor doggie had to cross his legs! I'm glad your son is coming home for christmas.
Cora, sorry your daughter won't make it home. I could see why her enthusiasm would be better after a frocking. lol where is she in Japan? my daughter is at Yokosuka, we leave in 5 days to visit her for the holidays! doing a christmas dinner on base, would love to invite your daughter and give her a great big Hug from home.
Holiday leave periods may be underway for many sailors. My son will be home in one week. Wishing everyone a happy holiday as they believe. In my case I will say "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."
It is very cold in Northeast Pa. we have had very little snow. Plaese stay safe and enjoy your sailor if you are with them.
