yes, they have been having a time of it, there was 2 ships in port they sent out and delayed all returns. All military was called back to base and are officially on duty until further notice. they did have a couple of days notice, they are just making it official now.

You know my daughter never talked much about it until recently, missing the USA, she's been all over and loved it but recently has voiced her want (need) to come home. makes me wonder what she's not telling me? haha she says, "it's just time. it'll be 5 years!" I'm thinking to myself, it's been a very long 5 years but whose fault was that? I don't think she's liking Japan as much as she thought she would or tells me.

Yes, Molly you are on target. Like they sang in the Wizard of OZ there better place then home. When you are traveling independently it is nothing like traveling via the Military (One will have a CAC card which quite different than just having a pass port in hand ) We are truly lucky to be Americans...

AMEN SISTER ~~he is so excited to come home

you know its funny because a few years back I would have said OMG living in Japan thats an awesome draw for duty and there would never be an issue living there. Most people in the USA would say *how lucky you get to work and live in Japan* I never considered the draw backs --seriously I never thought there was one. Other of course then traveling home and seeing family is not that easy. ((but lets be honest if your child works 5 states away and has a family --you only see them maybe at best once a year, sometimes if you see your family once every 5 years thats normal too)) What I never thought of is missing AMERICA itself --- the language, the ease of driving from place to place, the fact that you can go to any city in america and get everything you would need or want.

I am torn in my feelings I thought I would have been a blast and amazing, yet the sailor really wants to come home--misses USA very much. Whatever makes him happy makes me happy
James mom--no it only can be used by me. But thats ok I have so many many places I am suppose to go next year anyway
Washington homecoming next month
2 SD homecomings
1 Norfolk homecoming
Fleet week NY
Pepsi commericial in Florida
and then of course my own sons homecoming in SD
and I have a few states truthfully I need to make an appearance at and see the moms. CO,IL,TX all packing party places that are huge and have asked me to come. So I have no shortage of places to be. Matter of fact I dont think 1200 will cut it.
I need to travel for a living -ha ha ((if it only paid the bills))
BLONDIE --------- I was so looking forward to meeting you, i thought what a hoot navy moms in Japan. whats better then that ?

Grab your sailor and head where it is warm...Yes, when you are in the military or parent of a military member you learn to live on the fly. I agree you were luck and very savvy. You could put your ticket on Craigs List?

WOW things change in life
OK I booked a trip to Japan for 32 days with my sister to see my sailor. (he had no leave opportunity) I have had this booked since June
WELLLLLLLL
my sailor tells me last night he got leave and will be heading to the USA about the same time we are to be in Japan.
So I call and ask Delta how much to cancel the flight and what happens at that point. they say well its 250$ to cancel, and ...then there is a re-issue fee for a new ticket and you must use the whole credit by June. HOLY smokes that is 1000$ where the heck will we fly for 1000$ by June. SO the reservation person says call the military desk ---and I do
They waived all fees entirely. We still have a ticket worth 1200 we need to fly anywhere by june, but we can use 200 of it and bank the rest ---each time we book it starts a new date. So if we fly by may then the new *use by rate* is the next year may. UNREAL ----AMAZING and AWESOME. Lesson here folks -----deal with people who understand the military ways, they appriciate your family is military and go out of their way to help you. I am no longer going to Japan --but seeing my sailor right here in the good ole USA. (guess I better tell my sister huh ?) YIKES
