Molly thank you for the information...The DoD's new fiscal year just got started so we are running on steam/air...They say Dec maybe the system will be given a jump start. Do get upset that is life in the system and one learns how to adapt to circumstances/plan accordingly for the lean times.

I have never heard of KQ passes ---but JR passes must be booked online outside of Japan, then print reciept and take it with you. Show reciept and passport at the JR ticket counter and they then give you the actual pass.
Just google JR rail pass

I got a call today last minute homecoming we will be putting on. The economy has gotten so bad even the smaller FRG's cant afford to feed the duty sailors. How could we say no ---so I have been working my fanny off today gathering Washington moms and making calls for pizza/cake/58 goodie bags etc !! I cant believe the FRG cant get donations from buisness's (just pisses me off)

There are many options att but lobbing military family groups (they are all ready a 501C org, call your congress for deep discounts. I have an AK Airlines card and collect miles and they have partners so they add up fast(there are restrictions but you can use them for upgrades, etc). These are a few ideas to consider but I am in and please drop a line my way and maybe we can offer help to those who are in need.

I wish I even understood the air miles thing --- because as Adopt A Sailor they can set a account up for miles and have everyone post them miles into that account and then use them for sailors who cant afford to get home.
I set up that account for when we go to homecomings and such we can just put the miles in the account. At least that is my hope it can go that way

Have you thought of the use of Airline Miles to support such a program; a program that you could have use once every 4 yrs. Every body contributes and we could use the principle of insurance premiums.

The other idea is to speak with our legislators and We (they) can lobby the airlines to provide deep discounts for airline transportation. I pass this idea to a friend of mine who has a son at CL and she was not clear on the idea what I was speaking of, however, I have no fear of advocating my Sen or Reps in DC for such a cause. Living up here Alaskans speak their mind and when Uncle Ted was around, calling him up for support or in need was a given and very acceptable. Yes, progams for family support should highly considered and I am in. My son is 8000K miles down inthe lower 48 so the idea of flying on a min notice for myself and his brother would be costly, so I set $ a side for two tickets and next year I will have spending $. Speaking of retirement Blondie, I do not think I will be able to retire but do plan to become a snow bird (winter in the lower 48 and summers in AK). See my sons during the winter and transfer home to fish for salmon and enjoy 19+hr of sunshine come summer. Howver, the idea of lobbying the airlines via the Military Family Support Groups/Orgs is an idea we should consider.

I've tossed around the idea of a town built for just us, I know nurses, plumbers, builders, crafts people, firemen.......but alas everyone likes the idea, no one wants to move! maybe you're right after we retire> but then I want to be near my kids and hopefully grandkids by then.

well Cora I Can't afford it but i'm going anyway! my daughter is paying for one ticket and i won't go alone, so putting hubby's on credit. saving bunches tho by staying with her! it's just like getting married or having kids if you wait to afford them it never would happen. not missing a chance to spend the holidays with her, missed everything for the lst 3 years!
