Hello Karen, I am from Northeast Pennsylvania. My son Justen is 25 years old and almost 4 years into a 6 year enlistment. He is a MM2 stationed on the Ronald Reagan out in San Deigo, CA. Presently in port.

Hello! Im Karen from Missouri. I found this site from the Navyformoms web site. My son has been in for awhile but I figured it wouldnt hurt to keep getting info from different sources. A bunch of Navy moms from Kans meet last week for a get together. Anyone from MO or Kans?

Good Mornin' Sunshine, wake-up Buttercup!

I am in San Diego and we only get about 6" to 8" a YEAR! The last storm netted less than 4" inches total from the four storms in most places and it was a torrential down-pour...for us. lol

There are very few places that flood down here in the normally sunny south but where ever it could flood it did flood.

There is a warm water phenomenon in the Southern Pacific Ocean called an El Nino that draws the jet stream south which brings weather to us that would normally stay pretty far north.

We are glad, it washed things off and renews everything as our 'spring' rain which sets us up for fruit trees blossoming and planting our summer gardens.

Surprised to hear that the Reagan broke mooring, it was really stormy but they are in the Bay. So, it was pretty severe for San Diego. The Sailors did have to wear rain gear for sure and it was very windy.

The only bad news is beach errosion, but, the cities have been known to truck in white sand from Arizona to replenish the white sandy beaches...really, I know it sounds out there, but it is true. There is not the sea shell collecting like there used to be. Some of our beaches even have stones that are rounded like river rock.

All my best to all our Sailors! Love them!!!

I am sure I have never been in weather Like Ak. Yet to be above freezing in Jan or Feb is not the usual for here in NE Pennsylvania. We are suppose have rain until it starts freezing again. No message from the sailor today maybe this evening when he is off work for the week end.

Yes, this month has been warm and a lot warmer than usual but Feb is another story; the time period when the planes do not fly and the folks from the Slope leave the villages for town. Yes, I hear from my cousins from SD on FB that it has been a bit challenging this winter (sounds like the kids will have to experience a few day of summer school in order to make up their lost days). Up here it has to be pretty wicked before they will close up shop (school, work, etc). Now that my son is stationed down south he really is enjoying the warm winter weather. Although he always has been a warm weather child at heart and has reminded me why I did pick AK for a duty station? Keep warm and hope u have a great weekend.

Welcome to the frozen North. We are having a heat wave for January. High in the low 40's until sun. Then going back down below freezing. Spoke to my son the other day NONSTOP rain in SD since last Sunday. The ship broke its mooring. The only ship in port at 32nd street. Can't be OSPEC violation can see that from sattilite. Just goggle and the cameras can see anything. Someone did my house one night to show me. Kind of is creepy. They are saying up to 20" of rain for Southren Ca. No mud slides where he is at.

We had our first day above freezing in two weeks yesterday. Northeast Pa. is not usually this cold until the end of Jan into Feb. I am hoping we have a short winter. The summer of 09 was so cool and rainey. It seems like we could use a break. Never will happen. Florida has been cold for almost two week. There was a lot of freezing going on down there. It will increase the veggie and fruit prices.

Had a few moments to check out Navy Times. Gee many changes in store for our Sailors. I also quickly glance at the AF Times but my heart strings always are redirected back to the Navy. Yes, 2010 is going to be a busy one for us all and one can already feel the the tempo increasing. Take care and keep warm. I hear the lower 48 has been a bit chilly. Yet up here in the GWN, it feels like we are living in FL . Yahoo!
