Justen is coming home the end of October. He will only be home for a week. He will be home again for New Years. We are busy planning meals he wants. He was last home for New Years. It is the best thing I have had happen lately.

For you Moms out there - thanks for entrusting your sailors to us! If you have a question you can either ask me here or at Navy Dads (my son is a sailor) under "ask a recruiter" (yes, I am a recruiter also!)

From The Penny Press

Military personnel to be vaccinated against flu
All military personnel will be vaccinated
against the H1N1 flu virus, and the
vaccine will be available to all military
family members who want it, a Defense
Department health affairs official said
Sept. 1.
The H1N1 vaccination program will
begin in early October, said Army Lt. Col.
(Dr.) Wayne Hachey, director of preventive
medicine for Defense Department
health affairs.
The vaccine, which has been licensed
by the Food and Drug Administration,
will be mandatory for uniformed personnel,
the colonel said. “What we want to do
is target those people who are at highest
risk for transmission,” he said.
Health-care workers, deploying troops,
those serving on ships and submarines,
and new accessions are at the top of the
list. “Any place where we take a lot of
people, squash them all together and get
them nice and close and put them under
stressful conditions will get the vaccine
first,” he said.
The department will use the usual seasonal
flu vaccine distribution chain for
the H1N1, Hachey said, noting that while
the mass H1N1 vaccinations are new to
the general population, the process for
vaccinating against seasonal flu is old hat
for the Defense Department.
“We’ve been doing this for decades,”
he said. “The system is tried and true.”
The department initially will receive
1 million doses of the H1N1 vaccine,
and another 1.7 million doses later in
October.
The Centers for Disease Control has
established target groups for those at
greatest risk for transmitting or being
affected by the H1N1. They include
pregnant women, health-care workers,
those younger than 25 or older than
65, and those with pre-existing health
conditions.
The symptoms of the H1N1 flu are
almost the same as the seasonal flu: fever,
sore throat, runny nose, nausea, muscle
aches and feeling rundown.
The 2009 H1N1 virus - formerly
known as swine flu - is a pandemic virus,
according to the World Health Organization.
U.S. officials call the virus “troubling”
and urge communities across the
United States to take actions to mitigate
the effects of it.
President Obama said,“We need families
and businesses to ensure that they
have plans in place if a family member,
a child or a co-worker contracts the flu
and needs to stay home.”
The H1N1 is a never-before-seen
combination of human, swine and avian
flu viruses, officials said. First detected
in Mexico in February, it quickly spread
around the world.
According to July WHO statistics,
there have been 94,512 H1N1 cases
worldwide, and 429 people have died
from it. In the United States, 33,902 contracted
H1N1, and 170 have died.

Does the Navy have any plans/strategies to deal with a possible swine flu outbreak? They are in close quarters, so therefore all are at risk.

Dear Son,

Today, September 11th, is a very special day for me because I remember sitting with you in front of the TV at the foot of my bed that morning as we watched that second plane hit the World Trade Center Tower live and I said, "We are going to war with someone over this..." and you said, "I wish I was in the military right now so I could help them."

Wow, what an incredibly brave statement coming from a twelve year old.

You are such a very special man, I admire you so much. You made a plan that day, worked the plan and made it become a reality in just six years.

That is such an amazing thing and I am so honored to have been able to watch you make it happen.

All my best to you today my son, have a great day out there on the high seas serving our country on the USS Ronald Reagan. A proud air craft carrier crew member you must be on this day as you all protect our country's freedom and liberty.

Thank you so much, I am so proud of you and I love being your Mom.

Cheryl I am extremely proud of our young and women over in the sand box. I know Mark will do well and teach to the best of his abilities. My sister is a petty officer and she is now doing her tour over in Kuwait as a customs officer near the Irag/Kuwait border. Believe me I have prayed for all those young men and women each and every day. I will include Mark as well. Tell Mark that I am thankful for his commitment to his country and God speed.

Cheryl you have a right to be proud! and i'll add him to my prayer list. it's very scary, my daughter was in the ME for over 16 months before she got to come home, and then had to go right back to finish her 2 years. but she loves it over there. there is a prayer request wall here you should post it there, the more praying the better.
