My son is on the Reagan. They are in the gulf providing air support. It has been all over the news. he will be home this fall. I am glad your daughter got to come home at such an important family time. I won't see my son until Christmas. He won'ttake leave until then. It is to costly to fly coast to coast.
Here's to family sister's and daughters. May the wedding be fantastic.

Crystal, i'm so glad you finally got to talk to your son. here's my story; my daughter has been in the Middle East for over 16 months, i get phone calls, but that's it. alot of times it's hit or miss. this past Sat. she walked into where i worked! She's home, Yeh me! after 16 months, 8 days and 19 and 1/2 hours(but who's counting), i got to see and hug my daughter. i know i have to give here back to the navy, but i'll worry about that when the time comes.

Hello Mim's
I had a phone call at 5:30 am today. I had not spoken to my son in over 1 month due to poor quality calls from the ship. He is in port. I really loved hearing his voice. It had been over 40 days since we last spoke. I will say he emails me 5 days out of 7 from his ship. He will be back in home port this fall. We spoke and he is not planning to come home until Christams. The cost flying from one coast to the other is high and he wants to save money. I am so proud he is a part of our great Navy and far from home. Hearing his voice was like hearing beautiful music. Have a great day.

Grace, They will assign your son to different areas to allow him time to find a job he would like to strike for. That means using his ABSVAB scores and what he is feeling he would like to learn to do he may select an A school . If there are openings in the rate he has chosen when there is an opening in the A school he will be assigned there. This will take time some time, up to 18 months. Most sailors have chosen an A school before enlisting. There are some young people that can not find something that sounds like they would like to do it for 4 to 20 years. This may be where your sailor was at when he joined. He will be able to look at jobs on the ship and expirence some of them. Best wishes to him and you also.

Cindy, SCC is a class all sailors (I believe) in G.L. take following bootcamp and prior to starting A-School. SCC was described to me by my son as a basic seamanship type class. Some of it is an overview of things they are taught in bootcamp. The class only takes about 2 weeks to complete.

Grace, I do know the reasons for your son being undesignated, but there are a number of things they could assign him duties for and the Galley is one of them. They could also keep him busy doing other tasks on the ship as well. Is your son waiting to be assigned or offered a certain job? Usually sailors are given an A-School to attend, but he won't do that until they put him into a specific job.

Hi Grace ~ What a great name. It happens to be my 3 1/2 yr old niece's name, too! I'm guessing, from your comments that your son has already been through bootcamp? Not sure what SCC stands for either. Welcome. I hope you have a great time on this site.

Welcome Grace. My son is on the Regan. They are on deployment at present. The ship will return home late this fall. You are starting a big adventure that will add to your memories of your son. It also makes a mother very proud.

Yay Jodster! He has his security badge now. I bet you'll see him at Christmas. There's no way he won't want to spend time with his mom. I don't wanna grow up!

Jim ~ That first phone call is the absolute best and congrats for getting 30 minutes! I think I got about 10 min with Morgan. His division never did well as a team. Your poor wife! Does she have a cell phone that she can keep on and with her at all times? Love your picture. A sailor before he knew he would be a sailor!

Sandra ~ I'm glad your son is doing so well. He's probably getting the PIR excitement. I'm guessing his Battle Station is coming up, that good 'ole final test before getting capped. He'll love BS. Every sailor mom I've asked has said their sailor loved it. I guess it's because they finally get to put into action all that they've been learning.

How are you doing knowing you'll get to see him in a few weeks?
