Navy Dads

Hello everyone -

Well, I got that call that I was hoping not to get (as we were all saying no news is good news).  Maria, my daughter, Class 13-10, was bumped to H-Class this morning.  She was in good spirits though and had some information that some of you may be interested in.

Our phone connection was awful (we live way out in the country), but she said the DI's were not yesterday (Wednesday) as we thought but they were Thursday, today.  And it was not two Marine DI's, but one Marine DI and two Navy Petty Officers.  I couldn't make out when they got them up, 4:30 AM or 5:30 AM, but she was pulled out of Class 13-10 at 6:30 AM, as she was de-hydrated and throwing up.  She said that she was on the go for 17 straight hours yesterday, and pretty tired from that, though I'm not sure what she was doing as again, the DIs did not start until today.

There were I think I heard 3 other CO's that were pulled besides Maria today from Class 13-10.  She said that the next class is Class 14-10 which starts Feb 15th, which is 3 weeks away.  H-Class right now has 29 CO's in it, as there are several former classes there at any given time.

She said that H-Class CO's have phone privileges, but she is not allowed to use her cell phone which is in her car.  I am not sure how she paid for the call to us, but she said that it would be great if we could send her a pre-paid phone card which we will get in the mail right away tomorrow.  So, you all may want to think about doing this, as she said it is allowed and it's what most folks do.

She has received one letter from us though 4 more are on the way from different days.

She said that they were really strict on pushups and going down all of the way; I thought that she was doing good pushups but she said that the Marine DI didn't think so so she has to get this straight and do it exactly the way he wants when she goes back in.

She also said that Class 13-10 went non-stop from early this morning to maybe 6:30 PM this evening, so they really, really worked them hard today.

We only talked a few minutes but if there is something that any of you want to ask me that I may have forgotten to put down, don't hesitate to ask.  I am also on a Class 13-10 facebook site and I am going to paste this same message on that site as there are different folks there who may be interested in this.  Take care everyone, and may God Bless your LO's!

Hey Joe,
Sorry to hear about Maria. I know it is tough on her and probably just as tough on dad not being able to help. Our son is in class 12-10 and since Jan 3rd we have had one phone call and one letter. understand i am not complaining at this point, but it does make for some interesting commentary around the dinner table. If you can please clarify one thing for me. I believe the students are called IC(induc candidates) until they have passed the rlp, outpost, and the pt that the class 12-10 had yesterday-at that point they become Officer Candidates. You mentioned that Maria said there were 29 OC's in the H company. Could she mean IC and OCs? Just asking. I have heard that there were quite a few from 12-10 that may have rolled-although i don't know for sure. I cannot imagine what they are going through, so i look at the "mini documentary" about their trip through OCS that everyone seems to have and use this to give me an idea of the stress.
I know everything will work out for Maria.
Hi Steve - sorry - I am not that familiar with the lingo yet. when I said 29 "OCs" she really told me just 29 total guys and gals and I have no idea other than that how many are ICs vs OCs. This may be the first time I've seen the acronym "IC" and I don't know when they move from one designation to another. She said she may be able to call tonight again, so if there is anything you want me to ask, just let me know. Take care...

Hello - no, she did not specify any names other than that there were 3 others besides herself from 13-10. If I hear anymore, I will definitely post it! Take care...

hey Joe saw the FB post frist before I came here. Once again glad to hear she is in good spirts and that she is going to hang in there. Like I said on FB Jake has always been very hard on himself. That is my biggest fear about him being rolled to H that he will loss some of his spirit. Let her know that we are all behind her and wish her oour best. Did she mention anyother names that moved with her ? I tried to pepare Jake in some of our talks before he left that if he did get held back to make it a positive thing and use the time to reflect and build on what he had already learned but he would only say ' I am not going to roll". I unterstand the positive thinking but I was just trying to plant that seed incase it did happen. So give her our prayers and any news she can share is very helpful to all of us still in the dark about our LOs. Thanks agian for the info and will keep in touch.
Hey Joe, I understand the confusion and don't think i know all the lingo either. I have had to have my wife interpret some things for me and that is not a great reflection on me. I guess we will not get" parents of the year "because we really never discussed the possibility of rolling with our son. I don't think we had all the info in front of us before he left, which may have been a blessing. It does seem like almost everyone rolls at one time or another(navyformoms.com discussions) so i would think everyone in H company knows that this is not a black mark, but rather a detour in the road. Haven't heard from our knucklehead so we don't know where he is in the evolutions. You can tell Maria that there are total strangers praying for her and that we know she will do just great.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the info on the phone cards. From what I've heard, there is really no negarive to being in H-class. They talk about having several levels of "evolution" (hopefully not literally!) and once they get that part down, they just move on with the next class. For many, it's a chance to catch one's breath and develop. We will certainly add her to our prayers.

Thanks James! She's actually in Class 14-10 Delta now which is in the 8th week of the training! She's gotten thru in-PFA, Outpost, mid-PFA, RLP, ORLP, midterms, and next Monday, April 12th is her out-PFA! Once she gets thru the out-PFA and passes all of her finals next week in week 9, she becomes a CandiO! Sure do appreciate your adding her to your Prayers list! We can ALWAYS use all the Help we can get! H-Class really helped her get things in order to prepare her for 14-10. Please take care, and thanks for your kind thoughts and remarks above.

Great summary of the evolutions. So, when did she graduate? Did she finish with 14-10? My son just started this past Sunday; he is in 02-11. We are praying like crazy for him to stay healthy (physically and emotionally), go straight through without rolling. We can't wait for this to be over !!!

My daughter was kicked to H Class recently (05/27/2014, I need to write to her; and I am not sure where to send the mail. She is in New Port, RI at OCS. How do I write her?
