Navy Dads

My wife and I just returned home from Great Lakes, and sent our daughter Ali to P-cola for A school.  She has an AC contract with the rescue swimmer designation.  Everything I have read on here and heard from others is that it is extremely difficult.  What can, could, or should we do to help support her, also what should we expect from her.  I do know she is on hold until January, so that must mean she does not start any classes until then.?.?  We are very proud of her and want the best for her and the career she is starting.

John, be there for her with lots of positive thought and keep her upbeat. There will be times when is down and she may want to talk, be a good listener. Your are now the cheerleader. When my grandson was in training and we talked about how hard something was I would remember or make a note of what had happened. As training progressed I would ask if it was as hard as when you (referred to my notes). I could hear the smile come through the phone as he answered. When he If yes I reminded him the made it through that evolution and he would make it through this one to. My family and I will be keeping her in our hearts and send good thought her way.

HooYah Ailison!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi John, I would agree with grandpa273 comments.  You are now cheerleader, sounding board, psychologist, listener, encourager and much more. If my memory serves me right your daughter has several schools to go through: Air Crew Candidate School, Rescue Swimmer School, A School, SERE School and the FRAC.  My son Tom is almost done with FRAC.  When he was in Pcola it was a lot of phone calls, especially during RSS, we talked to him almost everyday, sometimes twice a day.  RSS is not for the faint of heart, it's hard for a reason and the instructors won't pass anyone who isn't doing things correctly.  At Great Lakes they talked about attention to detail and teamwork, that's what RSS is all about.  We also made a point of going to every graduation no matter what, that seems to really mean a lot.

Good luck to your daughter and to you, any questions just keep asking.

Danny
