Navy Dads

Chase hit Pensacola last Wednesday! He's excited as he can be but he,we or me is confused on what's next. He is 'on hold' two weeks and to be honest I'm not sure what that means and he has been pretty busy and has only called a couple of times. So my question is this. What is the training schedule for rescue swimmers?

Doug,

The Navy will pool students until they have enough to start a class. It's pretty normal to have a hold period prior to starting any Navy School.

He will have to complete Naval Aircrew Candidate School (NACCS) first, that takes five weeks and is focused on basic aviation physiology, flight physicals, water survival and PT. Once complete, he will be transferred to Rescue Swimmer School (RSS), there he will be in a hold status called “Starboard D”. This is a build prior to classing up at RSS. This school is 4 weeks long, and once complete he will transfer to AW "A" school, here he will learn the basics and principals needed to operate the equipment in the aircraft (platform) he will be assigned to fly in; SH-60B, SH-60F or MH-60R, MH-60S. The A school time varies on the type of aircraft he will be flying in. Once complete with AW 'A" he will transfer to the Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) for initial qualification in the aircraft. The FRS's are located in San Diego, CA.(SH-60F & MH-60R/S), Mayport, FL (SH-60B), and Jacksonville, FL (SH-60F).
