Well Logph it looks like Chris will be joining Robert in HSC-6 on board the Nimitz . He graduates later this month and he will be joining them .
My son Patrick swore in, and shipped out this morning for Great Lakes, 800 div. I was proud to see him take the oath. Maybe he will be in Garret's first class as instructor? Anyone else shipping out this week?
You are all soooo on the right track. The swimming is important, for sure, and the mental part will be critical. I just got back from Pensacola to visit Garrett as he goes through the various training classes to become an instructor there. The key point he said is that they want to make sure that you "want it bad enough". Only the ones who have the right attitude and physical abilities will make it through the high attrition rate. This brings to mind my favorite quote from Vince Lombardi "The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of WILL".
If your sailors remember this and live it, they will make it. Congrats to all who have made it through this challenging program. Dads, continue to support them in the fleet, the learning has only just begun. Those coming into Pensacola, you will see an wonderful change in your sailors life. Your support will help them always. Once in the fleet, they are treated very well compared to non airborne, yes even sometimes like "rock stars".
All the best to your sailors, and thank them from us dads for their service and desire to be one of the Navy's elite. Hooyah!
As long as I'm here and everyone is updating I might as give you our own progress report. After almost three years to the day of training, son Tom will be heading out on his first deployment Friday to the middle east and other parts thereabouts. He flies from Mayport to Norfolk in a day or two, finishes getting his helo ready, and then will fly from the base in Norfolk to his ship, USS Monterey, which should be right off the coast of Virginia Beach somewhere. We wanted to go down to Norfolk and wave him goodbye but he said the rock stars (Air Rescue Swimmers) get flown out to the ship so we wouldn't be able to see him. He did spend the past 10 days or so with us over Easter which was nice. His mom and I are naturally worried with what's going on all over the place over there but we are truly confident that he and his mates have had the best training the world has to offer so if there's anybody that knows what they're doing, it is them. Our thoughts and prayers are with him, your AWs and everyone who is serving our country. If we could see him waving goodbye, it would look like this...............
Congrats to C.R.'s son going through PIR, well done!! Also congrats to Tom's son getting through FRAC, HOOYAH to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sit-ups , push-ups , pull-ups all the ups and run run run swim swim swim
So,so true Danny and Logph. The mental part is probably the biggest and most important. Like Logph says YOU must be willing to go through that with him. You will recieve many phone calls from him telling you can you believe they said i had to do this or i did not do this right. I have many more gray hairs on my head now !!!!
