Hey dads, great book to read and to pass on to your sons - "Seal of God" by Chad Williams. I sent a copy to my son and he is loving it. http://www.amazon.com/SEAL-God-Chad-Williams/dp/1414368747/ref=sr_1...
Hang in there Jack. I sometimes think we dads get it just as bad as our sons. We are in for the same ride as they are. Only we don't get to actually participate. Believe me Jack, it's a tough ride. But it is well worth it!! My son is at the final phase of training and I can't begin to count how many times I thought that it was over. Robert told me the other day that he now understands why he had to go through a year of waiting and then all of the dead time between classes, and finally the toughness of the training - this programs requires the best of the best. This is a weeding out process. Only the best will persevere. One day, you and your son will look back on all of this and consider this as "rear view mirror" stuff. It's all behind you and nothing but blue skies and rotor wash ahead.
Hi Wayne, where on the east coast is your son looking to be assigned?
Danny
@ Jack Hurry up and WAIT ! Sometimes I feel that the Navy wants to let you know who is in control . When Chris was in his DEP , he was jerked around also . His qual times didn't count ....that wasn't a push up ...that wasn't a sit up ...or pull up . Chris had started out in the NSW program and fell out in Buds... transferred to AWS and still was jerked around about qual times and all the ups . But you know when you look back HE did it his way ... I had to let him go and do it His (Chris's) way. I'm very proud of him the way he dealt with it . I try to be positive towards him in all ways I can , also with great support . He is the one that signed for 6+ years and I'm sure that weighs heavy in any young mans mind .(I'm going to have to deal with this for the next 6 years ?) .... Trust me it gets better as time go's by. Chris is coming to the end of A-school now and looks good for the east coast . He will getting married in late September to a fantastic Navy Bride ... ( Didn't know you had to get Navy approval to get married ) anyway I'm just planning the plans not the results !
Hi All, what I've learned since my son Tom has been in is that the Navy has it's own rhythm and goes at it's own speed, like Thomas mentioned, you just have to roll with it.
That being said, on a positive note, my son Tom is currently on Andros Island in the Bahamas (tough duty) at AUTEC. He is practicing live fire with the M240s and 50 cals on targets being towed by remote controlled boats. He'll also be doing sub hunting stuff and the cherry on the cake (besides being in the Bahamas) will be firing torpedos and Hellfire rockets, I am still so jealous!!!!!!!!!!
Danny

Wow, Thomas! Great story regarding the swim out to the SEAL Candidates! Bravo to AW's!
Weather is always good in SD. My wife and I love to make the hour and 45 minute drive south. Robert is in Norfolk in a holding pattern at FRAC. He is hoping to get started next week. We shipped his car out to him yesterday. he is dying to get some wheels again.
