Good luck to your son Logph at SERE, I'm sure he'll do fine. My son said it's tough but just about everyone gets through. He just needs to pay attention during the training phase up at SERE and use what he learned when the time comes. My son thought SERE wasn't half as bad as RSS and since your son made it through RSS, then he should be in good shape for this. Where's he doing this, east or left coast?
Danny
Hi Dan, great to hear that you got to speak to your son. The first time that Robert called home from boot camp, I was not expecting his call so I did not recognize his voice. He has not let me live that blunder down. I'm sure you all are very proud of his accomplishments thus far. It only gets better. Just keep encouraging him. He will do just fine.
My son is leaving to SERE soon. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Those of you who have been in my place understand what this is all about. He and I have discussed this next phase of his training and we both understand that this is just one more hill to climb. He is actually looking forward to getting this over with and moving on. His mom and I are very proud of our young man.
Chris gave me a surprise this weekend

Hi CR, I totalyl agree with Wayne, my sons recruiters worked really hard with him during his year in DEP and even had some retired SEALS and Rescue Swimmers come to help and some of them still keep in touch with my son, it's really cool.
Danny
The Navy will not set him up for failure . DEP ( Delayed Entrance Program ) is set for this reason . His PST ( Physical Screening Test ) is a base-line where he will start . And once he reaches the requirements that he signs for he can start boot-camp . My son Chris also took a year before he went to boot-camp . He joined a gym that had a pool and trained just about everyday . Welcome and good luck to your son CR. We will be here for you and your son !
For what it's worth, my son Tom wasn't much of a swimmer at all before he started DEP, was never on a team or anything, just went to his workouts for that year and they taught him what he needed to be able to do.
Danny
this is an interesting link for SEAL workouts....I posted as they have a pyramid workout towards the bottom of the page: http://www.thesealteams.com/SEAL_workouts/
Welcome C.R., my son Tom went the DEP into the RSS program. He trained for about a year with his recruiting program before he went to boot camp. On his last PST before boot camp he got the "Black Shirt" which goes to someone who exceeds the top requirements for each test during the same PST. He worked his butt off for that year. He also kept telling me during the course of his RSS training that the people who were passing weren't superstart in one discipline, they were just good at everything. Swim champs won't pass on their swimming ability alone, fast runners won't either, they just need to be good at everything. Good luck to your son and don't be a stranger, there's a lot of good information in this group.

My son asked his recruiter to get the PST requirements for rescue swimmer from the special forces recruiter. He then started to work out daily to meet and then to exceed the minimums. He would go down to San Diego to test every other week until he finally passed. But meeting the minimums is not enough. Even after he passed he had to continue to meet and then exceed those requirements. The pool of people wanting into the program was so large that the Navy would only pick from the top qualifiers. After a while, the Navy conducted a lottery type of drawing to determine who would get contracts. They would pick two qualifiers a month into the program. All in all, my son took almost a year from the time that he signed into the DEP to get his contract. It was very tough for him to get in but it is doable if your son really wants it. All of the Navy dads in this group can agree that they have seen their sons challenged and responded accordingly. It will take physical and mental endurance to not only get in, but to stay in. Tell your son to keep his eye on the prize at the end of the tunnel. It is definitely the best job in the Navy. Good luck to your son.
