He should follow any rigorous SEAL-type fitness training regimes that are out there...research the 'net!!!!
All,
My son is about to sign his papers to join the Navy. He is seriously thinking about choosing the Rescue Swimmer program. However, he is out of shape and needs to really train before he takes his physical timed test. Is there a training regiment out that he could follow to get better prepared.
Dan with each step of the school or training they qualify for their next school. Boot Camp - NACCS they have to do so many push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and timing for runs and swimming to get to NACCS . In NACCS they do more sit-ups , push-ups , pull-ups , running and swimming . Also the spin and puke and helo dunker seeing if they are flight ready. Qualifying them for RSS. Building up their mines and bodies ready for the platform they signed for. My son said that RSS was the hardest so far .... But again he is waiting to go to A-School now. Yes NACCS = ACCS
Hi Dan, my son told me that at boot camp they were pulling out wisdom teeth left and right, they don't want anyone having a problem while they're at sea so they take care of it asap.
The course of events my son went through were as follows:
Boot Camp, ACCS, RSS, SERE, A-School, FRAC. My son finished his FRAC this past March, almost two years after he started boot camp. He is assigned to the HSL- 48 Vipers out of Mayport, just learned his ship will be the U.S.S. Monterey and he will probably be deployed in January. So that's almost three years of training. Currently he's getting in a lot of flight time practicing his job as well as flying with pilots that are training. Otherwise it's a lot of surfing and playing golf, I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous!!!
Danny
Dan from what I'm told from Boot Camp to Pensacola Fl. for NACCS (Naval Air Crew Candidate School) than RSS (Rescue Swimmer School)After that it will be A-School (Sierra -MH60-S Nighthawk) or (Romeo - MH60-R Seahawk)
Brad had posted this in 2010....don't know if this still holds true or not, but assume it is the plan:
A-school for rescue swimmers is in Pensacola, FL. Once you pass RSS, then you could go to San Diego, Jax, or Norfolk for the specific training based on the Helo type orders you get.
Thank You Guys ..I don't know why they waited so long to do it...He has been in for a year now... they didn't do it in BUDS so I'm guessing it wasn't that bad
Hi Wayne, prayers all around for your son, that's the first thing they did to my son at boot camp, I think it was within the first two weeks.
Wayne, we will be praying for a speedy recovery for Christopher.
