Finally got pics of son getting pinned 2nd class! First time Dad has seen the rack of ribbons and both sets of wings on him. Pining was at Atsugi Naval Air Base in Japan where he has been stationed since Feb 2009.
yes ..thanks for the information Danny !
Hi Wayne, HSM 40 are the Airwolves out of NS Mayport, HSM 41 Seahawks are out of NAS North Island, San Diego. I think they get to choose based on their standing in their class as well as what is available.
Hope this helps.
OK whats the differences between HSM-41 and HSM-40 ? Pacific and Atlantic Fleets ? And do they have any choice where they want to go ?
Tom, I echo the comments about the weather in P-cola. We had a great time there. The tour of the RSS facility really gave us a great insight as to what the candidates went through. Brutal!! Even while the graduation was going on, the instructors did not let up. The Stbd D sailors that were there watching the ceremony really got a good glimpse of what they can achieve if they hang in there. All of these sailors who make it are really a cut above the rest. I'll post pics as soon as I get a chance. Still unpacking...
Marc and Logph... Congratulations on your sons' RSS graduation!
Tom... You're son will love living in Coronado! Having just returned from a visit myself, I have to say it's a great place. All the HSM-41 guys are in the same barracks along with HS-10. Not sure about the other squadrons. They live in Quads. 8 guys live in 4 bedroom/bath combos. All 8 share a nice sized common TV Room. Tell your son there is NO quarter deck and he will come and go as he pleases. That was HUGE for my son after A school. The Navy Lodge out there just opened in January and it is top notch.
Danny... Congratulations on your son's FRAC graduation! I saw the SAR jump video you posted last month and shared it with my son and his buddies. What a great keepsake! Did they contract someone to make that video or was it produced by the squadron?
Logph, thanks for the kind words. I'll get that e-mail out to you. I'll send whatever Sean has sent. Wayne good luck to your son. Waiting must be hell for them? Thanks guys
Logph..... Yes, Navy Rescue Swimmers are an elite group of men AND women. Currently there have been 31 women make the grade so far. Our daughter would have been #31last May, but missed the final test after a second attempt. Very dissapointing, but she is now in Flight Engineer School for P-3's in Jax, FL. There now has been the 31st female to make it since last May.
Attention to detail, attention to detail, attention to detail, I can't tell you how many times my son Tom told me that was what was the number one thing they're looking for.
