Congrats on your son Don, when my son was in Pcola we always looked forward to a visit and let him be normal for a little while.  Not sure where you stay when you're down there but we always went to the Purple Parrot on Perdido key, nice little condos with the works so we could cook him homemade food and only about 10 minutes from the base.  Good luck to your son and the rest of him training.

My wife and I just got home from Pensacola after a weekend visit with our son. Had a great time with him and miss him tons already. I'm glad we took the trip. It's a beautiful base. He showed us around and then we took him for a mini vacation away. Went charter fishing in the Gulf and just let him lounge around in a room with airconditioning for a bit. He has changed so much since we saw him at PIR. He has dropped 20 lbs. and sounds and looks so grown up. VERY PROUD of our Rescue Swimmer in training!

Hi LLA, my son is in the RSS week 4 of 5 of the program. He graduated from Great Lakes in early May. He also was a strong and swam for a small college here in North Carolina. Tell your son there is SO much more than swimming. Mental stress is a huge part and it is very physical but my son wants this since he was about the age of 15. Last week he said they were begging them to DOR while they had to hold push up position for 35 minutes. (thinking position they call it).they also run a lot but he enjoys that. My son is small but size does not matter!! He has made life long friends there already. Your son will love Pensacola. Tom

Thank you all for your answers. I have been writing to my son daily to encourage him. I know from my time in service that this goal of his is a great way to spend his time in the Navy. He is an exceptionally strong swimmer and is very confident. But I understand the mental trials that will come his way. I just keep encouraging him.

Hi LLA, my son is in FRAC right now in Mayport, as I recall the order of events after boot camp were Aircrew Candidate School, Rescue Swimmer School, A School, SERE School, FRAC and then it will be off to the fleet.  My son Tom should be done with FRAC in February and that would put him at 1 year and about 9 months from starting boot camp with very little down time in between and only one or two weeks of rollbacks.  Good luck to your son, enjoy PIR, it's really cool!

Danny
