Thomas, that is great news! So glad he can continue the journey! Glad you enjoyed the video as well.
LLA, there are many steps along the way. Prior to RSS(Rescue Swimming School) there will be a short class of prep. Then RSS. After that you need to do SERE which is a survival event for all Airborne. Then FRAC which is the active training in the Helos based on the selection of Helo type he is assigned to. Then it is out to the Fleet to his assigned Squadron. This is a very simplistic account. Obviously there are many efforts that go on through the almost two year process. I think Garrett got to the fleet about 1 year and 8 mos. from the day he went to Great Lakes, but it can take a little longer. All the best to your son and let us know when he gets to Pensacola!
My son is still in boot camp in an 800 division (PIR 10/14). He had mentioned that it would take two years for him to complete his training. What are the training courses that he must take and in what order?
Thomas, We pray that your son made it through the test. Hope all is well. Garrett was a small kid going through too, and situps was his tough deal to over come. Everyone has something that they need to overcome. His heart will pull him through. I know it did for Garrett. Let us know!
All candidates going through RSS and FRAC are in our thoughts and prayers. It was much easier to go through that training long ago than seeing one's child go through the same training, but that is a small part of fatherhood. They will be fine, and they will be an asset to the Navy, and to the country. Godspeed to each trainee.
If you get a chance, check out an old video I sent out to my son and daughter called "Letters from Home". There are many great videos on this site, so enjoy!
Yes, Thomas. It is a normal occurence for a small mistake or inability to be "rolled back" to give the sailor time to work on things for a second chance to get past that issue. He will get to roll in as they fit him into the sequence based on upcomming class sizes and who is ahead of him in seniority. He will only have a limited chance to resolve it an prove to the instructors he can get it. Personanlities can also play a role, so hopefully he has impressed them in other areas. At some point, more towards the end, they will switch from looking to break them, to working with them to become the best they can be. When he gets his next shot, I am sure he will make the best of it. Keep us updated on his progress. We are pulling for him!
Hello everyone, I have a son who is in P-cola going through the rescue swimmer program. I'm new at this so any help would be appreciated. My son was just rolled back as he did not pass the escape and release test. he said stupid mistake. He hopes to be in this class that starts tomorrow but has not been told. He said they could roll him in at any time. Is that true?
