My son has recently enlisted and is interested in possibly becoming a navy rescure swimmer. He tried the college thing and it did not work out. However, he has been a competitive swimmer for most of his life. He was reciuted by the college. I have read it takes more than just being a good swimmer to be a navy rescuse swimmer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks

No I did not go in the RSS building. We were not sure if I was allowed. We did go to the Naval aviation museum though. I remember taking my son there when he was about 6, and putting him in one of the cockpits that they have there. Boy I feel old sometimes!

I did get to visit Pcola yesterday, and was impressed with the nice facilities. I was there visiting about 20 years ago, and I don't remember it being so nice. Anyway, I got to meet some of the other young men that went thru bc with my son. Everybody I met seemed to be in good spirits.

On a lighter note, my boy called again from Pcola tonight. He is very entertaining these days while he is waiting for his RSS opportunity. He and his whole group got IT'd again today and he was laughing about it like it was fun. Apparantly someone wanted to argue with one of the chiefs so everybody got to join in for the fun. He said "it wasn't so bad, we had a view, on the beach, some islands, water".

Boy's developing a sick sense of humor...

Scott, congrats to him completing SERE. Big to get that over with, now on to more fun stuff now! Continued prayer for his success.

Yes, great timing to leave GL now and come to Florida for the winter and start training. There will be some delay normally to "class up". Make sure he keeps working out hard on PT stuff. He will need it. Congrats!

My new sailor is all excited about going to p cola. Or maybe he is just excited to get out of GL before it get's too cold. He does not know anything about the next step in the training other than it is going to be more difficult. His RDC's either don't really know, or are not telling what is going to happen next. Still like I said, he is excited to move on. I told him he may have to wait some period of time before the next class starts.

Great news! Garrett passed his TSO boards on the GW! This is the final big qual for rescue swimmers to be responsible for everything in the SH-60 behind the cockpit.
