Brent, glad to hear your sailor is progressing! Hope he is enjoying the adventure! Keep up the encouragement for him, and he will do fine. Garrett always thought the food was good too!

Well, Garrett transfered onto the GW from the Cowpens during their port in Thailand. He hopes to complete his "boards" for 3rd level ASW/ASWC (the old TSO qual) and his final checkout flight. Hopefully he gets it done before they get back to Japan!

When Robert graduated from boot camp, we went to Chicago to the Navy Pier for lunch. I thought it was funny because in boot camp they told them to carry their rolled up raincoats all the time, and I couldn't talk him into leaving it. I told him he was no longer a boot, but he carried it all day. He has finished his tour in San Diego, and is transferring to Whiting Field in Milton, Florida to fly with new Navy student pilots. We went down last weekend when he purchased his first house in Milton, and went back to the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola. Still love that place.

So far so good. I got another letter from my swimmer-wannabe son in boot camp. It sounded pretty funny.

He says: " I have lost all track of time. I PT at least 2 times every day, not including when I get IT'd - but it's not so bad, I love the food. I had ice cream and corn dogs last night and the food changes every day"

I guess the Navy is either feeding them well, or my boy is trying to paint a good face on the program.

He also says he has passed all the tests so far, so I'm hoping he makes it to Pensacola.

We finally got a letter from our RSS wannabe SR. He said he did well on the first PT test at boot camp, and he sounded upbeat about the whole deal. He said his first swim time was 9:04. Is that good, bad, intermediate? Any RSS guys out there know the distance?

Tell your son Billy thanks for the info. I know my son (Billy) was concerned going in that the PT in boot was not enough to keep him ready for RSS. Looks like he will have all he could possibly want. 4am in the pool sounds like a tough way to wake up!

My son is in BC right now. Will he be able to continue his swimming training in prep for the rescue swimmer school?
