I echo what Brad said...Kat's ASVAB scroes were so high that the recruiters pushed and pushed to get her into the Nuke program....she resisited because she wanted to go communications....she won out and just completed a 5-year enlistment on the Abrahm Lincoln as a mass communications specialist......tell him to follow what he wants if he has the scores and qualifications......and as Brad says.....get it on paper!!!

Robert, I would not agree to anything unless it had what he wants in writing. They (recuriters) want their numbers to look good. At MEPS he does not need to sign. He can wait and come back after he evaluates his options based on the scores he gets. They will try to convince him of many things. He must get what he wants (AIRR) in writing on the contract. If the scores are not enough, he should try again later. He should also select a rating like AW to go with AIRR. The Navy typically wants them to have dual roles. At MEPS they tried to get my son into the Nukes program because he scored like a 94 or 95, they had him convinced to switch until I de-programed him that night so he could follow his heart and go for the adventure he was seeking jumping out of Helos, instead of the money while being miserable at the bottom of the carrier or a sub looking at gauges.

Typical of Garrett, I just now have been told, with a pic (uploaded now), of my son getting HS-14's Sailor of the month for Jan. They never think it is as big of a deal as we do I guess. As always, I'm proud of what he does!

Good news from my son, Garrett. He has completed his final checkout flight to complete the qual for ASO. For those in Romeo class, it means he has met all the requirements to operate the sonar equipment an now teach others coming up. He is now trying to race through to get TSO before the fleet leaves Japan for the summer tour. At that point he would have complete responibility for anything behind the pilots. This will be hard to get quickly since there is so much involved, but he knows they will still work with him on tour if needed to complete it. For all of your sons in school, it is important for them to know once they get their "wings" they will still be learning and needing to pass many many levels as they continue as a Rescue Swimmer/AW.

Scott, Congrats to Billy on such an awesome accomplishment!! By choosing Romeo will he be in San Deigo for school? Great place to train, my son loved it there. What a proud moment to you Scott, knowing all that goes into passing this, you know it is one of the hardest programs to get through, you should be proud!! Congrats also to all those in Billy's class for a job well done.

Looks like HS-5 is responsible for some saves today as they responded to a downed aircraft 5 miles out from the USS Eisenhower in the North Arabian Sea. One sailor still missing, the search continues. Please pray for them all.

Great to hear Scott. Billy looks like he must be one of the strong ones to make the cut. That is typical to see a big flush out in the first 3 weeks. Now he needs to stay focused not only on the physical training, but be sure to get the medical part down pat. It will be critical for the final, mistakes there will knock some out. With a small class they will get lots of attention though, so he should get it with repetition if he studies hard. All th best!!

Yes, Garrett had a female in his RSS class and another at A school (HS-10 San Diego). Regarding best place to be stationed, my son also likes Atsugi, Japan.

Welcome Aboard Jim Bruder and welcome onboard to Search and Rescue Swimmers Group. Our Sailors are some of the best to ever serve in the Navy and we are a very proud group. The training and testing of that training is not easy and when they pass its a wonderful day and one that makes Dads feel very Proud of thier Son's or Daughter's!, I don't know if a Female has ever been a Navel Search and Rescue Swimmer does anyone have that answer?

Paul really likes Japan. Its far from home and I don't like that part but it comes with being a Navy Dad, and I am happy if he is happy.
