The GW fleet should be arriving into Hong Kong soon, Garrett was told they may be there between Halloween and his birthday, which is today! That is not such a bad present, to get liberty in Hong Kong, hey!

Getting use to the Rocket Jet fins has always been the challange for new SAR pups. By the time they get done with RSS they will feel like house slippers to them. I look forward to meeting you at the graduation....JD

The current recruiting process to get classified as an AIR R Candidate is: Must DEP with an assigned Aviation Rating (Cannot choose AWR or AWS, that will come at the completion of Rescue Swimmer School (RSS) prior to AWA School). Must pass the PST, and then your son will be reclassified as an AIR R Candidate. I highly recommend that your son continue to take the PST on a regular basis just to stay in shape prior to shipping to RTC.

John I have a question. My son is in the final stages of his waiver saga and should meet with the job counsler next week. We were blessed to find a recruiter who got things moving and the Chief in the office has been great also.
Anyway, I have been doing research with Ian and if what I am reading is correct. Ian needs to get an airman rating (AWR/AWS, AO, AT, etc....) to be able to volunteer for Rescue Swimmer. He has passed a practice PST and his line scores qualify him for these ratings. Are we correct in our interpatation of About.com information?

Great to see all the new names and pictures.

My son is finishing up at HSC-3 and has about five or six more test flights to go. Still looking at a early December graduation date but with the new policy of getting wings at your squadron after more quals...don't know if we will attend.

Probably just save our money and go another time. It seems all the guys from HSC-3 stay in SD.

John, welcome to our group. First, thank you for your service! Second, we have a couple other dads with sons going through Great Lakes with the same PIR. It will be great to see each go through RSS together and the challenges to come that those having recently been through can offer info/assistance explaining whats to come. Third, we look forward to your extensive experiance as an AW to give us the perspective of being there and how our sailors lives will be enriched. Greetings, just found this page looking for information on my son's grad date. He is currently at RTC with a PIR of 13 NOV. Having flown as an AW for 26 years I may be able to answer any questions that you have regarding NACCS and RSS training in Pensacola. I still have friends on active duty and retired that are involved in the AW rate and Rescue Swimmer training.

Kevin and Scott, Glad you got the opportunity to get a call from your sons! That gives them great motivation, and I am sure your encouragement during those calls will keep them going thru battlestations. It is the first real test of many to come, but coming through that will provide confidence to tackle the next ones in Pensacola. Kevin, I am so sorry to hear of your son's grandfathers passing. My family will pray for God to give comfort and peace to your family and give thanks for his service to our country, but more importantly, thanks for his influence on your family and your son. No doubt that he will live on by Sean carrying his legacy with him as a great motivating factor. All the best to both young men in getting to PIR.
