Daughter 2nd Lt Gibson, Valerie now back home from Afghanistan!  Looking forward to this Christmas with both son and daughter home for the holidays!

Chuck, congratulations to your son for his decision and commitment to join the elite men and women of the US Navy who's motto is: "So others may live!".  You should be proud of him!  This will be a challenging number of months for him so he will need your encouragement.  My son is part of the instructor staff at the US NAVY base in Pensacola, which is where he will be going following RTC.  Bravo Zulu and All the best!

Our son just signed his new contract today with the rating of Aviation Rescue Swimmer. He leaves for RTC Sept. 14 2015.

Make sure that all of your social media security settings are at their highest levels. Military .com reports an AF father and son being harassed by ISIL followers through facebook.

I've been absent from the boards for a while- Just want to say how relieved I am that everyone came through the latest helo accident relatively un-scathed. As for my son, Patrick, he has been in FRAC for romeo in Mayport for over a month. SERE was completed in Maine, that was a tough one for Mom and Dad. He is stoked to be one of the Airwolves of HSM 40, and reports that he should get his first flight with them by the end of the month. Its been one crazy ride so far, God bless everyone!

thanks for the post Logph-- I see that throughout comments everywhere that people forget the purpose and seriousness of the Navy.  It is a not a fun summer camp....serious work with serious consequences for errors and accidents.  Our sailors work with dangerous equipment in hazardous situations.  Bravo Zulu to your son for the commitment !!

For those of you who are considering have sons or daughters in this program, there is a cost to pay as a parent. This is not just fun and games. We sometimes tend to get complacent as we talk about the training and the glory of it all. Each and every flight is a possible last flight for our brave kids. Always keep them in prayer and always hug them like its your last time. This is the second accident for this unit in less than a year: http://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=83062 My son reports minor cuts and scratches but spirits high and ready to go at it again.
