My son's A school graduation is 8/12/11, he is also a ET student.  Three weeks to go.

A school graduation is schedued fo 8/19/11 - it has and continues to be a long, hard road for my sailor.  He still may not get there - but he is working his butt off.  Come on 8/19/11!

I also found the site "ballston spa navy housing" to be a good site for our kids.  Enter either of those two sites into google and they will pop up.

My son and daughter in law just found out they are going to Ballston Spa for protoype also this August.  I found a Website "ballston spa navy"  had a lot of good information

Having completed Navy Nuclear Power training, ELT School, and deployments on both Submarines and Sub Tender in my 8 years of service, I can confirm what an incredible accomplishment this is for our sons and daughters.

 

There are a lot of folks out there, especially older ones in the nuclear industry, who will point to today's lower attrition rates and say that the training is somehow easier or that the program is softer than it was "back in the day."  Based on discussions with my son, who is now a Nuke MM on The George Washington, I can confirm that the students get more assistance from their instructors than my generation did.  I have also seen that the selection criteria are much more stringent than they were for me.  I think this is the primary factor in the lower attrition rates, as the training does not seem to have changed much (if at all) from when I went through it.

 

Overall, I am extremely proud of my son (and all the Nuke sailors out there) for completing what I believe to be the most difficult academic and practical training in any branch of any military.  Ever.
