We are not going to the PIR so we have to ship the phone. TFJ nuke dad that is good advice I did not think about last minute snags I will ask him to call from the airport before he gets on the plane then I can ship it. Thanks I never would have thought of that. I wrote my son who is too busy at boot camp to write dear old Dad and said write me a list of what else you want mailed or I will just take a wild guess.

Proud dad - we had the same situation with our son. The day of graduation we went to dinner, best buy- where he bought himself a very nice electric razor, Starbucks, then back to our room to hang out and wear his sweats. Later he redressed and we took him to dinner. He wasn't sure when he had to return because of a the excitement, he just forgot. We dropped him off at 7p and found out the next day he didn't have to be back till 9p. Be he was pretty nervous about being late. I was impressed. The next morning at 4a he was calling to have us meet him at the airport. I packed his laptop bag with cell, laptop and other items that he could just carry on the plan. They also let us go through security with proper I'D. We had breakfast, played card and layed around till departure. When he left for GC we went into Chicago and did some site seeing.
It was a fast trip but we wouldn't have missed it for the world.

I was at my sons grad N go from boot. It looks like Great Lakes was wanting to get the nukes to the next command as soon as they graduate, my son had to stand watch off and on for about two weeks while he was waiting for the next class to start. For those of you that haven't gone thru it yet you can meet your sailor at the USO, then your sailor can take you thru TSA security and you can spend a little more time with them at the gate. My son spent ten hours at the air port. I knew about the phone and once they leave Great Lakes they can have the phone if the next command allows phones, I gave my son his phone at the USO. It was kind of cool my son said Dad I have money now I can pay for my own things. I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Also your sailor can help the recruiter were they sighed on and get a few extra days on there first leave that don't count against leave time.

Hi guys.

my daughter is at CG, she was grad and go from boot camp had a total of six hours at the airport, she went straight through A school then was on T track until today when she started power School, so since April 2010 had just about seen her for 5 days over christmas its hard when it gets like this, but you learn to get through it

When my son went down, I too sent everything via UPS.  It was delivered to GC in 2 days but it took my son 2 days afterwards to get it.  The enormous amount of packages and mail they received usually takes about 2 -3 days before they notify the sailor that a package has arrived.

BobD, when my son graduated we sent his laptop and phone via the UPS Store.  From upstate NY to Goose Creek it cost about $60 with them packing the laptop (if I packed it they would not give me insurance), insurance and the shipping.  It took 2 days to get there, but about a week before he got it becasue of his schedule and when he could get to the receiving point on base.

BobD by coincidence I asked the same question in another forum and here is the answer I got, send the phone to A School at this address:

FN last, first, Middle Initial (if  EM or MM) SN last, first etc if an ET

NFAS Indoctrination Division (change to Class # when in A-School)

101 NNPTC Circle

Goose Creek, South Carolina 29445-6324

Quick question. My daughter just graduate boot camp and is heading down to Goose Creek Tuesday. Any recommendations for us in getting her cell phone and laptop to her as quickly as possible? Wish we could have met her at the airport or had USO give it to her but wasn't an option.

The reason I ask is, it said in the article it is "the Navy's only pressured submarine escape trainer".   The only one in the Navy, but only the non-nuclear enlisted train with it? They probably just hand the nukes an instruction manual and tell them to memorize it LOL.

In the "old days", the nukes would get a "short course" on damage control and escape when we went through Perl Harbor on a WestPac.
The training curriculum seems much better organized now, so I'd expect there's a better answer from someone with recent experience.
