I believe singles are in barrack style dorms on base there is also married housing on base also.
I have a daughter waiting to start power school she has been on T track since Sept does not expect to start power until Jan 2011

Can you double check on that? Maybe that is only for married nukes? I thought the policy was that all the single nukes are housed in dormitories on the base during NPS, and that for prototype they have to live off base in their own housing, i.e. find an apartment. My son was not planning to use a car until after NPS. Thanks.

I have heard from some of the wives of the nukes that many of the nukes have to live off of base once they are in power school so driving would be a must. Also I talked to my son one weekend while he was in Universal Studios, this was a Navy sponsored event that several of them were doing together. I remember when my son was first out of basic he didn't even want to drive at first he wouldn't even ride in a car that didnt have seat belts for everyone.

As far as I know, restrictions on travel ease the longer they are in GC for A school. They phase up while in A School to where by the third month they should be pretty free of basic restrictions. They are not allowed a car until phase II I think. While driving distances though they are restricted to hours driven in a day, I think it is 8(unless there is a second driver) but am not totally sure.

Do Nukes have a restriction on how far they can drive? Or is it just how far away they can travel?

Hey Jim B, our sons must be in the same class as our son graduates in January also. As I mentioned earlier, he had a four day weekend and we went for a visit. Training time is getting short and he can not wait for it to be over. As you said the workload is demanding and all these sailors deserve our utmost support and respect.
John, congratulations, a great honor to be sure.

Got some great news from my son today. He had just received a text from his LPO that he was chosen as Junior Sailor of the year for his unit.

We just returned from a quick four day visit with our son in GC and had a great time. As I mentioned earlier, he is on track to take comps next week and his boards before Christmas, graduating in January. Like others he is waiting for orders as to where he will go next. He also has signed up for subs and hopes he gets on one. He is an EM and says however that there is no extra schooling for sub training for EMs or ETs, they go straight to their assigned boats after leave. Just thought I would pass that on.
Steven S, you will not be sorry you attended Power School graduation. We went and it was a great ceremony. It was wonderful to see these sailors as they progressed one more rung of the ladder of a very long and grueling training schedule.

Thank you for all the comments. We are planning on going for power school graduation and really have no idea how to plan. I guess we will be flexible and open you going home early if son and wife have to get up to NY. That would be too bad. Reminds me of BC grad n go. Oh well, either way it will be great to see them.

Thanks all.
