Just reading threw some of the comments and see the phrase "on hold" a few times. My son left GC in May and is up at Ballston Spa. Wish I had a nickel for every time I still hear him say "on hold". I could retire! Proud of all of your sons and daughters who have dedicated this part of their lives to our great country. God bless them all and keep them safe.

This will be an interesting ride... My son just started boot camp and is in the nuke program... Don't know his rate yet. He's following in my footsteps (man, that makes me proud & amazed)... 29 years ago I headed to boot camp, then nuke school. I spent 6 years and finished EM1 (SS).

Things certainly have changed, but the pride of being a nuke (and a submariner) are the same.

Welcome Eric. As a word of caution to Eric and David, it is generally policy we are told not to use last names on the sites for security reasons. Not meant to dampen your enthusiasm for being here but I just thought I would pass that on.

Thats interesting didn't know that about Doubleday. I wish we would have had the time to go to Ft. Moultrie. Beautiful city!

The soldier that died forgot to wet swab the cannon barrell when reloading fifty gun cannon salute. Another piece of useless trivia Abner Doubleday was at Sumter. Go figure a baseball is shaped like a pentagon just like fort Sumter. I would also recommend seeing Patriot's Point and Fort Moultrie.

Joshua C, Cody went north. He was going to be on hold but they moved him up a class. Congrats to your son on his marriage. Navy wives have to be strong people with a good support group. Best wishes to the happy couple.
Mike K. Good on your son for getting ahead. He can't go wrong that way. There is a lot of neat stuff to do in Charleston. We took the tour boat to Ft. Sumpter. It was very interesting. The first death of the Civil War was there, not during battle but during the surrender ceremony. Go Figure!

We are heading down to GC for this coming weekend for a visit with our son while he has a 4 day weekend. He is an EM and is on track to graduate prototype in January. Our son was on hold after power school for a couple months and took a couple college classes and enjoyed that as an alternative to duty.
