Same with our son - we were able to see him Friday, Saturday, and Sunday........we also live in the Chicago area, but about 100 miles from the base so we decided to stay at a hotel so we could see him.

Yeah, from boot camp they will either be grad and go, leave almost immediately, sometimes even that very day, or they might get the weekend off on liberty. If they get liberty they would still have to report back to base each evening. We were lucky that our sailor got liberty so we were able to see him Friday, Saturday and Sunday. He shipped out to GC on Tuesday. We live in the Chicago area so we were especially lucky to have him able to come home and relax.

My son is home right now, he is helping the recruiter, he is not having to use as many of his days by doing this. He did have some paper work that he had to fill out to get this, but no it doesn't count against his time off. My son just finished his first A school will be nuke power next.

They do get credit for working with thier recruiter. My son was able to stretch his leave to 2 weeks. Didn't really do much went in for a few hours to talk.

I have heard it both ways as to how the recruiter thing works. I have heard that they get an extra 5 days leave by working with the recruiter and I have heard that they are only charged for 5 of the ten days leave by working. It may not be a firm way of doing things every time.

TFJ ~ I'm not sure my son understands what I asked him. He said that working with his recruiter would take away from his 10 days off not add to his 10 days off. I'm refering to the break between A school and Power School. Could you please explain further?

Our son graduated A school October 3rd, had 10 days leave, and then spent the next 5 weeks pulling duty before Power School started just before Thanksgiving. He then was also given 17 days leave over Christmas. They do let them go in the hole sometimes with leave, especially when the school shuts down.

My son is due to graduate from A school in Charlatan he is telling me that he has a week and a half off. He is coming home for a visit. He said he has one more test and them a final. I believe he said he was finished on the 9th of July. He has baught his ticket home already.
