Thanks Mike, This may sound like a strange question, but are those the only first steps? Its seems there are many different avenues in which one can work in a the nuke field, for the Navy. If you start as an MM can you then go on to a different area in the nuclear field. Or are you stuck with that area for your career. Thanks, don

Donniec, if he hasn't picked a nuke rating to become(EM, MM, or ET) yet, he will when he first arrives in GC. They need to know which rate they will be as A schools are slightly different for each rating with EMs and ETs being 24 weeks and MMs being approximately 12 weeks. Upon completion of A school they officially become that rate and are promoted to Petty Officer 3rd class for graduation.

We are talking about the recent Power School graduation. A school graduation includes only the one section you sailor is in and is nice but not really that big a deal according to my sailor. Power School graduation is totally different however. There is a Power School graduation only every couple of months and includes at least 10 sections of sailors totaling at least 300. It is held outdoors and is really nice and is THE graduation to go to. If you are close the A school graduation would be nice but the big deal is Power School. There is no graduation from prototype as they may start together but the way it is set up they finish at differing times.

GP
Just so I'm clear. Are you all talking about Power school graduation? My son is almost done with his A school there in GC and I have been wondering if this would be the graduation to go to. So does it look like they have time to visit with family and get moved into their new place before proto starts?

Thanks
Steve

Yes it sure is a small world. Wonderful to hear that your son is settled in and ready to go and we hope all goes well for him, as we do for all the graduates. What a wonderful day we all had for graduation. Sites like these are so great to keep in touch.
