My son requested BS as well - I agree weather, but my son wants to see other parts of the country so........I guess that works - we live in the Chicago area so he knows about the cold and snow, but he likes the winter sports. He said that class rank may play a part in the decision as well.......hope they find out - he wants me to drive with him after graduation so it would be nice to know.

My son choose BS over SC, (not my first choice because of weather, LOL!). His rank is PO3 and since we live within 400 miles of BS, that allowed him to have additional leverage when making his decision., or so he was told. It will be only a 3 1/2 hr drive as opposed to a 13 hour drive from home. He too was told 2 month wait until classes start.

Mike. He was told he has 14 days to report. He doesn't want to use up too much of his leave though.

I guess we are in the same boat GP. My son graduates power school 5/14 also. He told us somewhat the same as I am reading here though where he is going after grad. is not definite. He wants NY. He told us he has 2 weeks leave after grad. and then will be on hold for 2 mths. He is also an EM. He didn't mention GPA but he is always modest. He also mentioned a significant bonus comes with graduation?

The way we understand it is that the sailors may express their choice, it is up to the Senior Chiefs, and of course the needs of the Navy as to where they go. GPA our sailor says has something to do with it also, the better the GPA the more they will take that choice into consideration. Our sailor has a pretty high GPA, expressed a wish to remain in Charleston and has been told as of now that is what he will be doing after he graduates on May 14th. He was also told he would have a 2 month hold before he starts prototype. He is an EM and rates also have something to do with all this.

Are yours getting a choice of where to go for prototype BS or Charlston?
I think we are under the impression that they have one?

My son graduates May 14th as well and heading to BS - it sounded like he was going to go right after graduation as well.........I think he said that he was going to get some leave and time to relocate. Not sure how long at this point.

My son had nine days to travel and get settled in NY when he graduated from Power School. We live in Virginia, right in between, so it was nice to see him for a "layover". Of course YMMV.

GP - is your sailor getting any leave, or does he report to BS right away?

Well I got a phone call last night from my son who is graduating May 14. He was told he is transferring to Balston immediately after graduation. He is being detached from his unit and must be out of his barracks by Friday night, same day of graduation. Any else in the same boat, no pun intended?
