It sounds as if he is on the 15/3. He had 6 over the weekend. He says he has a 3.3 on a 4 scale. (?) I asked about any PT and he said it was somewhat unorganized and a little frustrating. I'm sure they are concentrating more on academics at this point though. He's buying out the Subway there from what I can tell. : )

My son said that there seems to be a backlog going into prototype. He graduates from power school in a couple months, but not sure when he will actually go to prototype. Has anyone else run into this lately? What are they having them do in the interim? I imagine back on T track but was checking if anyone had other info.....thanks Jeff

The way study works as I understand it is that when the sailor first classes up, they are assigned a study plan such as 15/3. What that means is they must log 15 hours of study a week with a minimum of 3 hours per day. This is assigned by each classes leading Petty Officer. Depending on how the sailors do on tests, this mandatory study will be adjusted. If they do really well, they could go on vols, which basically means they need to get their work done but they do not have mandatory study hours to keep. Our son has been lucky enough to be on vols most of the time. Some though who really struggle can get to as many as 35/5 our son said, he has seen this. The key to the school is that the sailors need to keep on top of their studies and if they have trouble, make use of the help available from either their classmates or the night duty instructors of which there are at least one on duty each night. The Navy really wants these sailors to succeed and they do a lot to try to make that happen.

Steve....Pre planned study is actually "mandatory" study time. Can range anywhere from voluntary to 30 hours or more per week depending on how well he's doing in classes. I know my son has had his changed at least 5 times since last June.

We had an enjoyable trip. We went to the NEX and the clothing sales store with Franklin. All of the new arrivals are buying the windbreaker, patent leather shoes and the rough boots. It definately beats spit shinning and wearing the p coat all the time. We were hoping he could bring a friend along but the liberty rules said only riding with immediate family for the 1st 4 weeks. He has been calling routinely but I am sure that will come to a screeching halt oncehe starts class. I looked at your page. Franklin is a native Texan as he was born at Ft. Hood. I retired out of there in 92.

I got a text from James tonight that just said "78 hr week". His class started last Tuesday and is now full throttle. He said he has 6 hrs of study this weekend so I guess it's pre planned... ? Have a good trip.

Franklin has settled in. He spend the week cleaning windows. It wasn't too bad though. He was finished each day by 1430. He said they did a 3 mile run on Tuesday and had a practice PFA yesterday He will class up next week. We are going to see him tomorrow and take a few things to him. He wants fried chicken but he will have to wait.

My son says they went to Walmart for colored pencils last night and starting class today. Hope you all had a great weekend. Our Saturday at the airport after PIR started at 4 am. I won't forget that day anytime soon. : )

Greetings, We just got back from Great Lakes. The PIR on the 19th was fantastic. Spent the afternoon with Franklin and saw him again on Saturday at the airport. We left him there and started back home. He arrived in GC last night about 2300 with 14 others. He was given today off and starts inprocessing tomorrow morning.
