How's it going with the reported rain and floods near Charleston?

Good Morning.  I know we don't normally post any information on here that identifies a sailor but I think it's important to post this.  This Sailor - Vincent Ferdin - is missing.  He is in Goose Creek, SC, in the last part of prototype.  His mom, Rena Ferdin, was contacted by the Navy on Monday that he had been missing for 2 days.  HE IS STILL MISSING.  She is in Goose Creek & has been there since Tuesday.  Please share this with your sailors & perhaps someone will know something or remember something that could help in finding him. This has been posted on various FB groups and there is also a FB page dedicated to finding him "Finding Vincent Ferdin".

Glad you had a nice time in Charleston Mike!  BZ to your son on his A school grad.

I’m back from a great visit to Goose Creek. My wife and I went to the Nuclear Field A School graduation last Friday morning. About 70 young or so sailors, 20 EM’s, 20 ET’s and about 30 MM’s, it’s very different than PIR but still very special and very well done. Base access was a breeze, parking is good, and graduation is in the gym with plenty of seats. Be in your seat by 0845, the graduation will start on time at 0900. As your sailor comes across the stage be ready with your camera. Tell them before hand to stop as they are getting there certificate for a photo, the MC briefed us before the grad that the sailors can and should stop for a good photo op with the Captain. The A school director and the base captain spoke briefly, most of their points were focused on how proud you as parents should be that your son/daughter completed school and is now a Third Class petty Officer. The entire leadership team hung around to talk, take photos and answer questions.
Lots of fun things to do and see in Charleston, King St is a great place for food, Patriots Point for history. I stayed and recommend the Fairfield Inn & Suites in N. Charleston, great central location.

I bumped a couple of discussions above that might be helpful to those that are new to Goose Creek.

We just drove to Great Lakes from central Alabama in one day, then back following seeing our new baby nuke off a the airport to Goose Creek. We got home at 4:30am Sunday morning after getting up to go to the airport with our sailor at 2:30... That was rough, thank goodness for convenience store coffee and waffle house ;-)

All great advice....I'm looking forward to the graduation Friday but the drive down from Virginia, well that's something else.

Frank. that's darned good advice. We'll do out best to follow that. Parents to tend to take the negative route far to often. We're guilty of that. So this is really good for us to hear. We needed it right from the start. And the care packages is an awesome idea. Not sure what we'd put in it, but I'm sure we'll come up with something that she would want.

I agree with Frank and Tom wholeheartedly. Our son got a temporary assignment to Kings Bay after Power School grad and on Hold. It was something new and he enjoyed it.

Mike...my son told me around mid September for his power school....doing watch duty and trying to relax and stay in shape of course. I agree with Tom's comments also...thanks!
