My son is also a Nuke on the Carl on his first deployment.  And like you, I couldn't be prouder.

My bad... my son was serving prototype a few months ago.  I forgot that this forum is for Fathers of Nuke Students.  I guess I ought to find a new group now.

I served as an instructor at Nuclear Power School from June 2011 until I retired in November 2014. Anyone with sons or daughters currently there or headed there feel free to ask me questions. Prior to my tour at Power School I served on 4 submarines (2 Los Angeles class and 2 Ohio Class) as an MM/ELT with a tour as a Recruiter between my second and third boats.

We stayed on base - our son made the reservations and had to escort us on and off base - but it worked out really well.

Ray, on base check Navy Gateway Inn & Suites, your son would have to make the reservation.   Off base there is a Hampton Inn just down the road from Gate 2.  Or try the airport area, there is some construction but there is a Holiday Inn, Hilton, and Marriot.  Enjoy your visit to Norfolk.

Yes my son said that the governor wants anyone 100 miles from coast to evacuate. Sorry to hear about the cancellation. East coast of Florida prepping for the storm but SW Florida looks to be spared at this time.
