Derek's leaving immediately after graduation on 6/6, was told he has about one month of leave, which can change. I guess I'll be helping him drive to San Diego when the time comes.

I'll talk to Derek this weekend. I guess I'm going to have short notice to take time off from work, so I can fly down and help him drive back home to Chicago. I hope you're right about getting their schedule on Monday.

mlongst, Great to hear!  So the 3 of us have sons graduating the same day at GC.  Pretty cool.  Being married, I'm sure Mike is happy to be on a boomer even if it is across the country.

Mine's assigned to an SSGN at Kings Bay, GA.  As Floridians, we're obviously happy about that.

Also, sounds like they'll find out more about their upcoming schedule on Monday.

Congrats, mlongst! And BZ to Mike! I know it takes a huge load off.
I heard the same info mentioned by JoeM, that my son's leave might not start until a couple of weeks after graduation.
I think he has to report in early July as well, to CVN70 in San Diego.

Well, found out last night Mike passed his boards.  Even though I knew he would do well the tension was high. After 2+ years ,  a broken ankle,  the signatures he had to repeat etc.     Can't tell you how proud I am but you all know how that is with your sailors.  Now it's on to SSBN-737  USS Kentucky in Bangor Washington.  None of us have been farther west than Great Lakes, IL  so this will be a whole new set of adventures.  Mike and his wife are involved right now with moving and he has talked about Star re-enlist when he gets settled in Bangor,  so I may have some input to the running discussions.  Mike will  grad  on 6/6  and will drive up to NY right after movers take their belongings.  He will stay here for 2 weeks and then drive to Bangor.  I think his report date is around 7/1.  Congrats and good luck to all in whichever phase you are in right now.  Bravo Zulu.

Would be nice to keep the discussion here as my son graduates RTC on June 13th and would like to know the same information.  Sounds like I have a lot to learn as his career in Nukes is just about ready to begin...

Joe M - eventually I'll be interested in your discussion on the transition from training to first base.  I would say either a new group on this site or if you want to keep it nuke related then perhaps a discussion above?

Same goes for the STAR re-enlistment.  Our son is only 6 weeks into proto but he has talked to us about this.  I know he mentioned that they recently had some type of class/meeting with a career counselor and they discussed STAR.  Hopefully someone whose sailor has been through this already will chime in.  I believe that William on here has knowledge of that.....I know he has mentioned it on the nuke mom's site in the past.

Never to early to start gathering info IMO!

Is anyone aware of any discussions re: the transition from training to their first assigned base?  A group on this site maybe?  I'm wanting to discuss info the logistics of moving.  Mine still has a lot of stuff stored here at home.  I'm researching on the web, but it would be helpful to talk to other folks firsthand.

Also seeking discussion on the STAR re-enlistment process.

KenH, Sounds like we're in the same boat re: leave.   According to my son there's some scuttlebutt they'll be at GC another week or 2 after graduation, a very unclear situation.  His report date is Jul 2 at Kings Bay, so he's eager to be freed up.  Kid's been shortchanged on leave opportunities IMO.  He's been home ~10 days over the last 26 months.

B'sNuke, Thanks!  I'm so ready for this to be over.  My anxiety levels have probably been higher than his over the course of it.

Good luck, mlongst. I'm sure he'll do fine. We all felt the same anxiety. I think Mike and Derek were in boot camp together.
Thanks, Joe M. My son does graduate on 6/6 at GC. He had to repeat a lot of checkouts as well; don't know how many.

Still waiting to hear when his leave starts. I'm going to help him drive his car back to Chicago.
