This comment does not just pertain to my son in the nuke program, but to all "kids" going from high school directly into the armed forces.  My son has been receiving notices from the State of Michigan for unpaid income taxes and penalties he has accrued for his active duty pay.  Now we have found out that Michigan does not tax active duty members and are in the process of helping him straighten out this mess, but I wonder how many other patriots are getting these letters and are just paying.  To think that the state or national income tax bureaucracies are ignorant of from where this income is originating is BS.  I hope my message will help other families.  I plan to remind the local recruiters to "sell" not having to pay state income taxes as a way of reminding young recruits.

Hey guys I will be leaving your group. My son completed his 6 and has moved on to the private sector after spending the last 4 years with the Enterprise. The group was informative and I found many answers to my questions, especially early on in the process. The employment opportunities are out there and he had no trouble finding work, even out of the nuclear field. The reputation for this program is well known with HR departments.

My son didn't have typical days when he was in dry dock and he immensely disliked that part of his tour. During one trip to the dry dock he was the junior officer in the Engineering department and frequently was on the boat 24 hours a day. When he was able to come home it might be long enough to have a meal, sleep a short night and go back. Not good for the marriage. 

But part of that is because they were completing a refueling which involves the engineering dept. I don't think the weapons or Nav departments had the same experience. So it depends on your son's job and the reason the boat is in dry dock.

Can someone tell me a typical day of a Nuke when ship is in Dry Dock.  Are they assigned other duties?  Do they have a typical 9 - 5 type job in dry dock?

My son had a friend who graduated power school with him both went to Ballston Spa together. His friends class was delayed and after about 6 weeks they sent him back to Goose Creek to finish and he's still there. 

Tell your son to make the best of whatever they give him. My son is out on his first deployment and loving it.

My son has had to wait a few months and still hasn't gotten in to Prototype. He's just relaxing in SC enjoying his summer school-free for now! But I think he is getting tired of the uneventful jobs he's been doing while he waits.

I was in Charleston a week ago My daughter (Power School Instructor) says there is quite a backlog for people waiting to get into Prototype. Not sure why, but the fiscal situation seems to be the key factor.
