Joe M, thanks. I was trying to decide between ipad with keyboard or a laptop. Wasn't sure if he would need the power of a laptop or not.
Evan: Also, space is limited. All personal items must be kept in an armoire/desk/cabinet type piece of furniture that must be locked when they're away. In other words, a laptop is probably best.
My son bought a small flatscreen TV and made sure he measured before buying to know it would fit.
Evan: Yes they can have computers, game consoles, TVs, etc. They are only necessary for their personal enjoyment. Will not be used for school. If they want internet, they'll have to purchase from local market (i.e. Comcast) and have it installed in their room.
Was heartbroken to read about the nuke that crashed his motorcycle......
Prayers and condolences to friends and family ---- seems like he was a popular guy.
There may be a string somewhere on this topic, but are sailors allowed computers at Goose Creek? We are looking at a grad gift from boot camp so he can have it from the start, but wasn't sure if they can have them or if they would even be necessary other than the general email/entertainment value. Any comments appreciated.
Craig,
My son joined in September 09. His time at Goose Creek was challenging. He had some problems in power school but the staff will do whatever it takes to help the kids pass as they take students washing out academically personally. Academics and stupidity are what causes people to washout of the program. With very few exceptions everyone will Grad hold before prototype. My son is currently at Kings Bay. He's an MM2 and loves his work. So much so that during his current tour at sea he re-enlisted. Bare in mind that if your kid volunteered for sub duty there is no guarantee. Several of my son's friends volunteered for subs when they enlisted and got carriers.
Hi Craig,
Can't answer for after their training but my daughter is in Power School now. She will graduate sometime in December.
