John J. Welcome to the group. My son was able to spend 3 days with us before shipping out to Goose Creek. However, he did have a friend who was a Graad and Go which was strange because they ended up in the same classroom at SC. I'll always keep saying this to help keep my sanity, "The Navy does what the Navy does, and they do it when they want to." Try to keep that in mind over the next 6 years. It's going to be a fun ride!

When my son graduated boot camp we got a total of 50 minutes with him before he had to head off to the airport to head for Goose Creek.

One thing I might mention to John and Tim, for security reasons it is suggested that last names not be used.

John, our experience pretty much mirrors Jeff's. Our son graduated on Friday and had liberty over the weekend ( had to back on base each night) and shipped out to Goose Creek on the following Tuesday. As far as I know, all the nukes that graduated that day waited until Tuesday to ship out. I have not heard of any nuke being a grab and go, though I may be wrong.

My son had the same experience as Jeff's. He was off on the weekend and left on Tuesday for A school.

John - when my son graduated there were both grab and go's and some that had a few days of liberty. My son was off on the weekend and then he left for SC on Tuesday to report to A school. I am not sure how they determine who is and who is not a grab and go. From what I was told - some of the parents did not know their childs status until a few days before PIR (Pass in Review - graduation).

The reason for the delay is because ballspa had some issues a few months ago. The sailors up there were shipped to goose creek and were waiting to fo back to New York. My son starts Prototype today in goose creek when your sailor finishes power school let me know,We rented an awesome house with 2 others & got great deal. Also I have great info on power school grad. We rented a House on sullivans island for a much better deal than a hotel. E-mail me or get in touch for any info. Thanks, Tim

Also tell your sailor to enjoy his time off because power school is no joke. Lots of studying. I'm on facebook and have some great pics, tim reddell
