Does anyone know if the Nukes leave RTC for A School together? Or, is it the RTC Division that leaves at a specific time after Boot Camp? Thanks!

Again . . . thanks for the info all!

What is the typical size for a new class of Nukes starting A school? And how often does a new class start?

John, my son graduated RTC from div 921 on Ap 10 and shipped out to GC on the 14th and started A school today. He had a week and a half before classes started. Not bad. As he tells us it is pretty much as Kelly said, all depends on when classes are set to go. My son is an EM and will have 6 months of A school then a leave as was mentioned. No time off during A school really. He also just mentioned to me tonight that they still have inspections both room and individual, as he put it "more than at boot camp" which must be fun. When I did advanced work in the Army, we were basically left alone. Hope this helps some.

Thanks to all so far . . . follow up question for NavyPop - when you say the first two divisions, do you mean the first two divisions numerically? Where would a 900 division fit into that?

Sorry John, I left out some things. Sometimes after bootcamp they are grad and go which means they leave right after PIR for Goose Creek, my son got to spend 2 days with us before he left. His A School didn't start right away but I don't think he had to wait as long as some kids do. I think he was only about a week or so before he started A School. Now when he got back to the base from leave to start Power School it was almost a month before he started Power School. Alot of it just depends on when a new class is started.

Hello John,
My son is an MM so his A School was only 12 weeks long. If you sailor is an ET or EM I believe the A School is longer. Your son will by indoc until the next class starts, sometimes they have to wait for enough sailors before they start a class. When my son got done A School he was home for 15 days but 5 of those days he work with his recruiter in the office so they actually get 10 days off. He just finished 6 months of Power School in GC two weeks ago and had been home for the last two weeks. He starts Prototype today which he decided to go to Ballston Spa, NY so he had to report there this past Saturday. He will be in Prototype for 6 months if everything goes well in NY and will probably get another 2 weeks before is given his assignment. I am not sure about this but he is thinking that he will be able to come home a little more often while in Prototype because he is alot closer to home and sometimes they get long weekends. Well, I hope this helps.

Hi all!

Can any of you give me insight as to what happens to Nukes after graduating from Boot Camp? When does A school start? How long is A school? When do they get their first leave and how long is it? My son will be graduating on June 12 from RTC.

Thanks!
John

I love that Dave. "the phrase that still haunts us, Power School" LOL Oh the memories. I was lucky I was only on mando 2's. Prototype was the hardest on me. I barely passed my boards.

Jim G,
No not "C' school, just a phrase that still haunts us! It is "Power School" and then "Proto Type" Our Kids are about to be filled with an extreme amount of info, time to stock up on suport for them!

Aaron starts MM A School tomorrow, he is excited and a little bit nervous but I assured him he will do fine! We are very proud of him!
