BZ to your son Charlie!  Our son did proto in NY too - hopefully you'll be able to visit there sometime.  Ballston Spa/Saratoga Springs is a nice place.  We lucked out & were able to make it there twice.  Hopefully they're moving them through quicker now - our son was there for a year!

Just returned from the Power School graduation on Friday. Truly a great experience for the sailors and their families.
Had lunch with some of my son's classmates and parents at the Swig and Pig (pork stomach sandwich is recommended).
I'd recommend getting there really early since traffic was backed up for about a mile and some sailors were bailing on their parents and walking to the ceremony. It was also miserably hot and the early birds got seats in the shade.
On to Ballston Spa.

Yup. Be her rock.

She's in the NAVY now.

Practically speaking, your recruit is in a whole different world.

"Needs of the Navy" rules  your recruit's life.

When  and where and what -- she will know the details sooner or later, and will pass the info along. Whether it's a 5-month delay between A-School and Nuke school, or, later, whether her deployment got extended a few months. You gotta be flexible, you never will know much in advance.

Your Nuke and you know the general outline of the training program,

but if when they go to the fleet --

In the training part - A-school, power school, prototype -- it's hard to schedule visits and leave.  When they deploy -- sometimes there's e-mail. Possibly CARE packages.

Arrange what visits you can, your recruit will probably thank you.

Frank she leaves for goose creek next week. I will have to ask her what she really is I wanna say it's MM because she said it wasn't going to be a long A school i don't know I will have ask her to be sure.

Cody it depends on her rate, is she ET, EM or MM? The MM A school is 13 weeks. ET and EM are both six months. She will know when her graduation date is, my son gave me the exact date (of course things can change for a number of reasons but either way she will be able to update you). How long has she been in Goose Creek?

Frank and mike, thanks for the awesome advise. We are taking it one step at a time, been supporting her all through boot camp I won't stop now, plus it going to be a lot better durning A school. I like how you guys say be her rock. Just been trying to plan it out kinda a head of time. Because if she gets the time off to fly home it's going to be easier to fly her home and fly her back, because I have to take the time off work you guys know how all that works. She said something about getting time off after A school, but she wasn't sure how long her a school is, it's in goose creek sc so if you guys know would love to know how long it's going to be. I've got plans in my mind set for the future not say they may or may not happen just trying to keep an open mind

Cody, concur with Frank, be her rock. She’s been accruing leave at a rate of 2.5 days each month she’s been in the Navy. Liberty on the other hand is simply time off, generally staring at the end of a work day until the next scheduled work day, excluding watches/duty. Talk with her, what does she want you to do? The aviation A schools slow down around Christmas, not shut down, a class in a training track may suspend training for a short time (10 days or so) but the building will not close. Those taking leave, leave, those staying clean. What A school is she attending?

@Cody. At the conclussion of "A" school the 10 days of liberty does not come out of their own saved time so it is a perfect time to head out. Power school is 6 months I believe with prototype afterwards for another 6 months. I am not sure how liberty and time off will work when they hit power school and then prototype. We are going one step at a time and its my opinion that you do the same. Focus on helping your girl thru today and A school. Try not to look at the entire duration, break it into segments, especially for your girl. In the bigger picture of life A school then power school then prototype are all just a few pages of the entire book. She will need your support one day at a time without any additional stressors. Be her rock Cody.

Hi all - Happy Wednesday!  We are heading to VA next week to visit our sailor! Excited to see him and hoping to get a tour of his ship (USS Truman).
