Well, Mike and Alyssa arrived at his new post in Bangor WA on July 2 to serve on the USS Kentucky.  Unfortunatey  all of their furniture, clothing and possessions arrived yesterday.  When Mike left SC  to visit us in NY at the end of June the agreed delivery date in WA was 6/25.   Mike didn't have to report until 7/19  but cut his visit short so they could get to WA and set up their new household.  He was never informed of any delays in the moving process. When they got to WA they had an empty apartment. The moving company said because of overbooking their stuff stayed in a ware house  in WA for most of the last three weeks.  No one from the moving company or the Navy contacted them , all correspondence was initiated by Mike.  The moving company eventually sent them a list of reimbursable expenses but says they are not elligible for any inconvenience payments.  Only items on the list with receipts will be paid.  Of course no one told them to keep receipts until about 1.5 weeks ago so they may not get all of their expenses back.  He's now in touch with Navy personnel to see what, if anything can be done. For anyone getting ready for moves make sure get receipts for anything you do during the move and stay in constant contact with movers and Navy.

Troy Baker, "Rig Ship for Ultra Quiet" by Andrew Karam is the quasi-fictional account of an ELT on the Plunger back in the 80s. It is a pretty good read and gives a bit of insight into the role of an ELT, as well as life on a sub. You can find it on Amazon.

My son bought himself a watch before prototype, plans to get a nicer one when he gets shore duty at the tail end of his contract. He doesn't want a new watch "full of bilge". I plan to buy it for him when he's ready.
We're leaving early Thursday for a prolonged 5 day father/son trip from Chicago to San Diego, where he will report to CVN 70 as a qualified ET. So proud of him!

Thinking about a gift and considering a watch. Recommendations? I've heard that SEALS get some sort of Casio G-Shock (DW-9000?). Is there a watch favored by nukes or the Navy in general? I would like to keep it around $60 or under, if possible. Thanks.

Troy - that's great news for your son.  Like you said - any extra training is a plus!

Hope everyone had a good 4th.  My sailor and his GF and one of his roommates were able to go to NYC for a long weekend.  They had a great time......he said they enjoyed seeing some of the sights - it was crowded but they had fun!

Just found out my son who qualified and will be graduating prototype in August has been picked up for ELT training and will be staying at prototype a little longer!  More for me to learn and figure out what he will be doing! I hear any extra training is big plus!
